Definitions
- the present invention relates to a clamping device and trimming units for trimming edges of a book according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the US 6,030,163 discloses a method of joining two or more pieces along an edge to produce a bonded printed product.
- the bound printed product may have an oblique back.
- the US 5,086,681 discloses handing over the book by means of a feeding conveyor system comprising a tape.
- the belt moves at a lower speed than the conveyor chains, so that the impact members arranged on the conveyor chains are subjected to a low frictional force.
- the books Upon exiting the feed conveyor system, the books enter a first trimming station.
- Fig. 1 and 2 show a force vector analysis carried out by the inventors of the present invention, in which the forces occurring when trimming one end of a book 20 by a straight trimming knife 10, ie a trimming knife 10 with a straight edge 12, are analyzed at an angle ⁇ .
- the book 20 includes sheet material 26 and an envelope 22 that is bonded to the sheet material 26 by an adhesive 24.
- the EP 1 153 872 discloses the generation of a chamfer in a collated sheet product.
- a method of gluing a spine is described, which includes forming a chamfered spine, moving the chamfered spine in a direction perpendicular to the backsheet, and applying adhesive.
- a method according to the invention for producing a profiled back in a book having a first side defining or forming a first plane, a second side defining or forming a second plane and a back provides that the book is locked by means of a first clamping element contacting the first side a second clamping member contacting the second side is clamped and that the first clamping member is moved relative to the second clamping member or clamped between the first and the second clamping member to bevel the back by the first side in the first plane or the second side in the second level is moved.
- the method according to the invention advantageously makes it possible to produce an oblique back, e.g. can help reduce the risk of detaching the envelope into trimmers.
- the method preferably further provides that the oblique spine is trimmed.
- the oblique ridge with respect to the first plane can form a preferably acute bevel angle.
- the trimming process can be done from the first page to the second page.
- the acute bevel reduces the risk of peeling off the envelope during the trimming process.
- the method according to the invention improves the trimming of books, in particular the sides adjacent to the spine.
- the risk of detachment of the envelope in devices with reciprocating blades is reduced.
- a clamping device comprises a first clamping element and a second clamping element for clamping a bound book and an actuator which moves the first clamping element with respect to the second clamping element to generate a shearing force in the book.
- the present invention provides a trimmer with a knife and a clamping device according to the invention.
- Fig. 3 shows a first embodiment of a edge trimmer with a clamping device 50, which comprises a first clamping element 52 and a second clamping element 54.
- the second clamping element 54 may be a horizontally stationary or movable base in this embodiment.
- An uncut book 30 has a first side 32 defining or forming a first plane 42 and a second side 34 defining or forming a second plane 44.
- the sides 32, 34 may be formed by an envelope for the sheet material 36, which envelope may have a spine 38 with an adhesive 39 binding the sheet material 36.
- the side 34 lies horizontally on the clamping element 54, which gives the book 30 advantageously a stable position.
- the clamping member 52 can now clamp the first side 32 by moving in the direction 53.
- the clamping element 52 may e.g. be attached to a rod 55, on whose side a cam follower 105 extends.
- the cam follower 105 may be driven by a piston 100 pivotally mounted on the cam follower 105, the other end of which is pivotally attached to a stationary support such that the cam follower 105 follows a cam 112 in a cam base 110.
- the cam follower 105 is moved cam downward in the direction 53, so that the clamping member 52 clamps the book 30.
- the clamping member 52 can then be moved in the direction 57 when the cam follower 105 reaches a horizontal portion of the cam 112 so that a shearing force F is applied to the first side 32 moving along the plane 42.
- the second side 32 remains stationary on the stationary clamping element 54, so that between the back 38 and the first plane 42, an acute angle ⁇ is generated.
- a reciprocating side trimming blade 60 having a knife edge 62 may be moved in the direction 64 to trim the sides of the book 30.
- acting on the back 38 caused by the force FR of the blade 60 orthogonal force FN is increased, so that the risk of detachment of the envelope along wide areas of the back can be reduced.
- Fig. 7 shows a plan view of in Fig. 3 shown embodiment.
- the edges 131 and 132 of the book 30 protrude past the clamping members 52 and 54 so that the trimmers 60, 160 can truncate the edges 132 and 131, respectively.
- the clamping member 54 may also be formed as a moving conveyor. To produce the chamfer, however, a relative movement between the clamping elements 52 and 54 is necessary.
- Fig. 5 shows a second embodiment of the clamping device according to the invention, which has a first clamping element 82 with a clamping attachment 182 and a second clamping element 84 with a clamping attachment 184.
- the clamping elements 82, 84 may be formed as arms, which clamp the book in a first movement and are then displaced relative to each other, so that a differential movement is produced, which generates the shearing force F.
- Fig. 6 shows a further embodiment of the present invention, in which the clamping device according to the invention comprises a first clamping member 92 moving in a first direction 72 and a second clamping member 94 moving in a direction 74.
- the directions 72 and 74 may be identical; In this case, the clamping element 94 would move slower than the clamping element 92.
- the clamping elements 92, 94 may thus be formed as a moving conveyor belts, which act on the sides 32 and 34 with a frictional force.
- “book” is here any kind of collection of sheet material with a back called.
- “Clamp” means any type of element that applies a frictional force to the side of a book, moving the page of the book.
