Claims (13)

  1. A switch comprising:
    - a casing (10) containing at least one fixed contact and at least one movable contact,
    - an actuating device (100) for displacing each movable contact between two positions, namely an open position in which each movable contact is moved away from each fixed contact and a closed position in which each movable contact is applied against each fixed contact, said actuating device (100) comprising a handle (110) available to the user, mounted rotatably on a cover (120) positioned on one side of the casing (10), the handle being connected to a shaft (130) which engages a first pinion (11) disposed on at least one lateral side (12) of the casing (10) to drive it in rotation in a given direction of rotation, the handle (110) and the cap (120) having complementary sliding supports (112, 122) co-operating with each other and comprising means for limiting the travel of the handle (110) by two limit positions, namely a position 0 corresponding to said open position of each movable contact and a position 1 corresponding to said closed position of each movable contact, and
    - a locking device (200) for locking the handle in its position 0, which comprises a latch (210) having an internal end (211) and mounted movably on said handle (110) in such a way that it can occupy two positions, namely a retracted position in which it leaves the handle (110) free to rotate and an extended position in which it is adapted to be fastened by a lock and in which its internal end (211) is engaged in a recess (123) provided at an end of the sliding support (122) of the cover (120) to be interposed between said sliding support (122) and that of said handle (110) in order to lock the latter in its position 0,
    characterised in that the casing (10), the actuating device (100) and the locking device (200) comprise arrangements permitting positioning of the actuating device (100) and the associated locking device (200) to the right or the left of the casing (10) by means of turning the latter over upside down, in such a way that the user preserves the same direction of actuation of said handle (110) to move it from the position 0 to the position 1 and vice-versa, said arrangements comprising:
    - on the front face of the cover (120) a detachable portion (124) carrying a marking indicating the position 0 and the position 1 of said handle (110), which detachable portion (124) can be positioned on said cover (120) in two positions in dependence on positioning of the actuating device (100) to the right or to the left,
    - a rotation means (13) provided on said lateral side (12) of the casing (10) which, in one of the positions of the actuating device (100) to the left or to the right of the casing (10), is interposed between the shaft (130) and the first pinion (11) so that, irrespective of the positioning of the actuating device (100) with respect to the casing (10), said first pinion (11) is always driven in the same given direction of rotation, and
    - another recess (123) provided at the other end of the sliding support (122) of the cover (120) and intended to receive said internal end (211) of the latch (210) to lock the handle (110) in its corresponding limit position.
  2. A switch according to claim 1 characterised in that there are provided filling means for filling at least one of said recesses (123) provided at the ends of the sliding support (122) of the cover (120) so as to enable locking of said handle (110) only in one of its two limit positions 0 and 1.
  3. A switch according to claim 2 characterised in that said filling means comprise at least one screw (140) screwed on to the cover (120).
  4. A switch according to claim 3 characterised in that the cover (120) internally comprises a screwthreaded shaft (125) in line with at least one of said recesses (123) and that the bottom (126) of said recess (123) can be broken through so that each screw (140) is capable of being screwed into said screwthreaded shaft (125) and breaking through the bottom (126) of said recess (123) to emerge from the outward side of said cover to fill said recess (123).
  5. A switch according to claim 2 characterised in that the means for filling each recess comprise a cuttable projection which rises in the interior of said recess.
  6. A switch according to one of claims 1 to 5 characterised in that the sliding support (122) of the cover (120) is formed by a curved ramp, that the complementary sliding support (112) of said handle (110) is a groove means which is also curved, and that at each end of said groove means (112) there is provided a window (113) of which a lateral side (114) is intended to come into butting relationship against an end of said curved ramp (122) to limit the travel of said handle (110).
  7. A switch according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that said detachable portion (124) is a plate comprising means (124A, 124B) for mounting in a receiving recess (127) provided on the cover (120).
  8. A switch according to claim 7 characterised in that said mounting means (124A, 124B) are latching means.
  9. A switch according to one of claims 7 and 8 characterised in that the bottom of the receiving recess (127) provided on the cover (120) comprises a through opening (127C) and said plate (124) on its inward face which is towards the cover (120) carries a tongue portion (124C) capable of passing through said through opening (127C) upon latching engagement of said plate (124) on the cover (120) to emerge from the inward side of the cover, said tongue portion (124C) forming means for assisting with unlatching of said plate (124).
  10. A switch according to one of claims 1 to 6 characterised in that said detachable portion is a self-adhesive sheet fitted on to the front face of the cover.
  11. A switch according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that said rotation means provided on the casing is a second pinion (13) freely meshing with the first pinion (11), the two pinions (11, 13) rotating in opposite directions of rotation, said shaft (130) engaging one (11) of said pinions in one of the positions of the actuating device (100) with respect to the casing (10) and engaging the other (13) of said pinions in the other of the positions of the actuating device (100) with respect to the casing (10).
  12. A switch according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that the latch (210) comprises an external end (212) arranged to receive a padlock, said external end (212) disappearing into the handle (110) in the retracted position of said latch (210) and emerging to the exterior of said handle (110) in the extended position of said latch to be accessible to the user and receive said padlock.
  13. A switch according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that said handle (110) moves from position 0 to position 1 by being actuated in a rising direction, the position 0 being a down position of the handle (110) and the position 1 being an up position of the handle (110).
