Abstract

Wide side access to vehicle is obtained by omitting central pillar, rear edge of front door (10), hinged at front, adjoining front edge of rear (sliding) door, when both are closed. Without central pillar, front door lock is placed on upper or lower edge, engaging with fixing point in top or bottom of door frame (12), i.e. coach work box sections forming edge of roof (12S) or door sill (12I). Sill-level lock is fixed in base (14I) of door casing, and embodies rotating bolt plate (22), with two-stage latching, engaging vertical hasp-bar (16) fixed on top of sill case (12I). Lock expels bolt (28) into recess (26) in frame (12S). Bolt is chamfered to ease entry and final sealing. Relative positions of two locks can be reversed.
