Definitions
- the invention relates to documents of value, in particular securities, such as Banknotes, checks, travelers checks or shares, but also documents that do not exist or only partially exist, e.g. Credit cards, ID cards etc.
- diffraction structures e.g. Holograms, so-called pixelgrams etc.
- these security elements are comparatively complex to manufacture.
- AU-PS 488 652 describes security documents which consist of several interconnected plastic sheets, at least one optically variable security element being arranged between these sheets and a transparent window being provided in at least one of the cover sheets in the area of this security element, so that the security element can be viewed through the window.
- the state of the art is used, for example, to create a recess in a plastic sheet provided in the interior of the document, into which the security element is inserted.
- the security element is then fixed in the recess by cover films applied on both sides.
- cover films applied on both sides.
- the attachment of the security element causes considerable difficulties and, in particular, a full-area lamination of comparatively large areas of plastic films is required.
- the inclusion of the security element between the two films often leads to a significant deterioration in the brilliance and thus impairment of the recognizability of the security element, in particular under unfavorable lighting conditions.
- the known document can be used as a security, in particular banknotes, only with difficulty because it differs fundamentally in terms of its surface quality and other properties from the properties of paper known and familiar in particular in the case of banknotes.
- EP-PS 0 229 645 describes the production of a security paper with an embedded security element in the form of a thread or tape in such a way that two separate paper layers are formed, the paper layers having areas of reduced thickness or openings. The two layers of paper are brought together and during the bringing together the tape serving as a security element is inserted.
- the arrangement can also be chosen so that the openings in the two layers of paper (on the top and bottom of the tape serving as a security element) overlap one another, so that the security element is exposed on both sides of the paper web by one To allow viewing of the security element also in transmitted light.
- the arrangement has rather only been chosen such that the security thread or the security element was alternately exposed on the top or bottom.
- a major deficiency of the known procedure is in any case to be seen in the fact that the security threads, after they have to be worked into the paper web, may only have a relatively small width in order not to disturb the cohesion of the paper itself.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of proposing a document of value with a window-like security element which is suitable for transmitted light and which can be produced easily and without impairing the recognizability of the security element, the problems known in the production of security papers with embedded security thread not being expected during manufacture are. However, it should be ensured that counterfeiting of the security element by pure printing or color copying is impossible, but at the same time there are a multitude of different design options for the security element.
- attempts are no longer made to store a security element in the carrier. Rather, the opening is deliberately retrofitted in the carrier and then this opening is closed again by means of an at least partially transparent cover film, and as a result of the full-surface attachment of the cover film to the surface of the carrier, the cover film is detached, which may be based, for example, on optical effects Security feature bears without damage to the carrier is practically excluded. Because of the arrangement according to the invention, it is readily possible to cover a cover with comparatively large dimensions use, which means that thin films can be used. At the same time, a procedure according to the invention also offers the possibility of providing windows with relatively large dimensions, whereas only very small dimensions could be achieved in the known windows produced during paper production.
- the windows can be large, even if additional security elements are present, there is also the option of keeping a sufficiently large area of the cover film completely transparent.
- the background will show through in the area of the window, so that the color of the background appears at this point in the reproduction. In this way, counterfeits can generally be easily identified.
- the authenticity of the document of value can also be easily determined by the user, since the presence or absence of a transparent area of the document of value can also be readily ascertained with the unarmed eye. Covering the opening of the carrier by means of the cover film has the advantage that, despite the presence of one or more openings, the stability of the document of value does not suffer.
- the use of a cover film offers further design options for the security element. Variations of the security element are also possible due to the different shape of the window-like opening or variation in the positioning of the opening or attachment of several, possibly different, openings.
- the cover film is expediently arranged in a recess in the carrier surface which includes the window-like opening, the carrier being particularly advantageous for forming the Depression is compressed.
- the compression simultaneously smoothes the surface of the carrier, which can be advantageous for certain security features. For example, when security features are applied to paper in a hot stamping process, their optical efficiency is reduced by the relatively rough paper surface, which can be avoided by appropriately smoothing the paper surface serving as a carrier.
- the opening can be produced in a simple manner by means of a punching or cutting process, with the usual punching methods and as Cutting methods especially laser cutting should be mentioned.
- the application of the depression and the application of the cover film is simplified if the cover film extends across the entire width or length of the document of value, i.e. a recess from edge to edge is provided.
- the procedure is expediently such that the cover film is applied to the carrier of the document of value, while at the same time forming the recess, by means of pressure, preferably laminated onto the carrier in a rolling process.
- the window-like opening can be made in one pass through a corresponding machine, after which the cover film is then laminated on in a further step.
- the invention provides that at least on one side of the carrier, the cover film and at least the adjoining surface area of the value document are overprinted with a coherent pattern.
- an adhesion promoter (primer) layer at least on its free side, which is not attached to the value document or the carrier forming it.
- the cover film is a laminating film which consists of a transparent carrier film and a decorative layer adhering firmly to it
- the decorative layer which preferably comprises at least one lacquer layer, at least in a partial area of the Opening is also transparent.
- the decorative layer can be specially designed graphically using various methods known per se, in order to create additional recognition options for an original value document. However, it is always important that the decorative layer in the area of the opening is at least partially transparent, because only then will the effect primarily aimed for by the invention be retained.
- the cover film can be provided with at least one special security feature, preferably based on optical effects, and for at least a partial area of the surface area of the
- the breakthrough is left transparent, advantageously at least one security feature being formed by a diffraction structure and / or thin-layer arrangement that is effective in terms of refraction and / or diffraction.
- the cover film can also comprise, for example, reflective surfaces, special imprints, for example in the form of micro-script, etc. It is expedient if at least one of the security features is arranged in the area of the opening, because it can then be, for example, such a security feature that authenticity can only be checked in transmitted light, with transmitted light methods in particular using advantages when using automatic testing devices .
- the decorative layer is expediently constructed in such a way that - starting from the carrier film - it has an at least partially removed surface of the carrier film provided with the diffraction structure serving as a security feature, comprises a reflective layer at least in the region of the diffraction structure and a transparent protective lacquer layer at least in the region of the opening.
- the structure of the decorative layer in the laminating film according to the invention basically corresponds to the decorative layer structure known per se from hot stamping foils for security purposes with a diffraction structure, for example EP 0 559 069 A1.
- the cover film is fastened to the carrier in such a way that its decorative layer faces the surface of the carrier, one obtains the advantage that the surface of the cover film carrying the decorative layer is practically deepened and thus to a certain extent against mechanical ones Stress is arranged protected.
- a special adhesive layer for attaching the cover film to the document of value may be dispensed with, namely when the decorative layer, at least its transparent protective lacquer layer, already has sufficiently adhesive properties.
- a further possibility according to the invention is that the decorative layer carries a layer of a curable adhesive on the side opposite the carrier film, it being possible, for example, to use reaction adhesives which are only exposed to the appropriate heat or radiation, for example IR or UV radiation. fully react and harden.
- reaction adhesives which are only exposed to the appropriate heat or radiation, for example IR or UV radiation. fully react and harden.
- the use of such adhesives has the advantage that detachment of the cover film when the adhesive has hardened is impossible without damaging the value document itself.
- the carrier has an adhesive application in the area used to fasten the covering film, although it may be sufficient to provide only this adhesive application on the carrier, but it may also be expedient if the covering film is additionally provided despite the adhesive application on the carrier is provided with an appropriate adhesive layer. If only the carrier is provided with the adhesive application, the advantage is achieved that possible carryover of glue in the area of the opening can be avoided.
- the security 1 shown schematically in FIG. 1 can be used with regard to its basic design (in the sense of the invention) for all possible types of printed matter, for example bank notes, checks, travelers checks, shares etc., none of which are shown in the drawing Details are shown and apart from the security elements essential to the invention, other possible security measures have not been discussed in detail. Furthermore, there is a fundamentally corresponding structure for other value documents, for example credit cards, ID cards or the like. intended.
- the security according to FIG. 1 consists of a paper carrier 2, which can be provided, for example in the manner known from banknotes, with a watermark, with special imprints and other security elements, such as one schematically indicated at 3.
- the security element 3 can have the form of a special microprint, for example. But it can also be a specific embossing, a reflective embossing, etc.
- the paper carrier 2 is normally part of a paper web or a paper sheet from which the security 1 is cut after completion when the security 1 is produced.
- another suitable carrier which may already have a security element, is used, e.g. a plastic card or film is used.
- the carrier 2 has at least one window-like opening 4, which is closed by means of a cover film 5, the cover film 5 being attached to the entire surface 6 of the carrier 2, preferably being glued on, such that it opens the window-like opening 4 As can be seen from FIGS. 1 and 2, it projects beyond on all sides, so that the covering film 5 adheres firmly to the surface 6 of the carrier 2 around the opening 4 in the regions 7 (FIG. 2).
- the cover film is arranged in a recess 8 in the surface 6 of the carrier 2, so that the cover film in the finished security 1 does not lead to a substantial increase in the thickness of the value document, which is particularly important if one Variety of documents of value to be stacked.
- the security threads previously known for securities are only relatively narrow and therefore have to be comparatively thick for mechanical reasons. However, they then protrude far beyond the surface of the security and, when stacking security documents in the area of the security threads, lead to an undesirable thickening of the stack, which may complicate the production and automatic handling of the security.
- the depression 8 is produced in that the paper carrier 2 is compressed in the area of the depression 8. This can be done in a simple manner simultaneously with the application of the cover film 5 to the surface 6 of the carrier 2, namely by applying a correspondingly high pressure when the cover film 5 is applied to the surface 6 of the carrier 2, resulting in permanent compression of the carrier 2 leads.
- the depression 8 for the cover film 5 extends over the entire width of the carrier 2 from its lower edge 9 to the upper edge 10.
- This design has the advantage that both the application of the cover film 5 and the design of the recess 8 can take place in a roll-off process by means of corresponding rollers or rolls, which offers the possibility of providing the security 1 with the cover film 5 in a continuous process, the window-like step being carried out in a step preceding the application of the cover film 5 Breakthrough by punching, which can also be done in a rolling process.
- the punching process can, if the tool is designed accordingly, be combined with the compression process in one operation.
- FIG. 1 shows that the cover film 5 is only transparent in a partial area of the window-like opening 4, namely the outer area 11, while in the inner area of the opening 4 an additional, e.g. Security feature 12 based on optical effects, e.g. in the form of a diffraction structure effective in transmission.
- the additional security feature 12 in the window-like opening 4 can, however, not only be formed by a diffraction structure having an optical refractive and / or diffractive effect, for example a hologram, pixel gram, etc. It would also be conceivable to choose, for example, a reflective surface, a special microprint, a thin-layer arrangement or some other design that is difficult to imitate as additional security feature 12.
- the cover film can be provided outside the area corresponding to the window-like opening with at least one additional, e.g. be provided on the basis of optical effects security feature 13, which security feature 13 can also be designed in a wide variety of ways depending on the material of the cover film, its possible coating, etc.
- An undesired detachment of the cover film 5 from the surface 6 of the carrier 2 is further increased according to the invention complicated by the fact that the cover film 5 and the adjoining areas of the surface 6 of the carrier 2 are overprinted with a coherent pattern 14.
- This pattern 14 can also be printed in the continuous process already mentioned in a process step following the application of the cover film 5.
- a document of value e.g. a security 1 according to the invention offers a multitude of further possibilities for forming security features compared to the previously known security documents, but it must always be ensured that in the area of the at least one window-like opening 4 - of course, several openings could also be provided - the cover film 5 at least is transparent in some areas because only then can it be easily checked with the naked eye and only in such a case does an optical falsification occur in the attempt to reproduce by means of color copying or printing in the transparent area within the opening 4. This distortion is obtained regardless of which color is selected for the background when copying, because in any case the corresponding area is not transparent.
- FIG. 3 schematically shows a laminating film as it can be used as a covering film 5 for the security 1 of FIGS. 1 and 2.
- This cover film 5 of FIG. 3 consists of a transparent carrier film 15. This is on its surface facing away from the decorative layer 16 with a thin adhesive layer 17, which is intended to ensure that the printed pattern 14 adheres well to the carrier film 15, provided.
- the opposite surface of the carrier film 15 is also provided with an adhesion promoter layer 18, which is intended to ensure that the decorative layer 16 adheres sufficiently to the carrier film 15.
- the decorative layer 16 as shown in FIG. 1 — is provided with different security features 12, 13, both of which are diffraction structures as described above.
- the decorative layer 16 has a thermoplastic deformable base lacquer layer 19.
- Different diffraction structures 20 and 21 are formed in this base lacquer layer 19 in the areas corresponding to the security features 12, 13, these diffraction structures 20, 21 being produced by appropriately embossing the thermoplastic deformable base lacquer layer 19 after it has been applied to the carrier film 15.
- the diffraction structures 20, 21 are of course only visible in the cover film 5 if the layers surrounding the diffraction structures 20, 21 have correspondingly different optical properties. This is achieved, for example, in the case of the diffraction structure 20 of the security feature 12 in that a reflective metal coating 22 is provided in the region of the diffraction structure 20, the metal layer 22 being, for example, an aluminum layer vapor-deposited in a vacuum or in a suitable manner applied layer of another material known to be suitable can act.
- a suitable dielectric for example TiO 2 or TnS, is attached in the region of the diffraction structures 20, 21.
- the diffraction structure in the cover film 5 is then covered by a transparent protective lacquer layer 23, which in turn can carry an adhesive layer 24, at least in the area of the opening 4, the adhesive layer 24 primarily having the task of adhering the cover film 5 to the surface 6 to favor the carrier 2.
- a transparent protective lacquer layer 23 which in turn can carry an adhesive layer 24, at least in the area of the opening 4, the adhesive layer 24 primarily having the task of adhering the cover film 5 to the surface 6 to favor the carrier 2.
- it can also favor a possible subsequent printing on the side of the cover film facing away from the surface 6 of the carrier 2 in the area of the opening (s) 4, with correspondingly thin value documents or large openings.
- the protective lacquer layer 23 is usually colorless, in order to facilitate identification of the security element, it can certainly be provided that the second security feature 13 is distinguished by a special coloring in addition to its diffraction effect. In the case of the film in FIG. 3, this is achieved, for example, in that the diffraction structure 21 of the security feature 13 is covered with a transparent but colored lacquer layer 25 before the protective lacquer layer 23 is applied.
- a cover film 5 according to FIG. 3 could be constructed as follows:
- Adhesion layers 17 18 and 24 - Adhesion layers 17 18 and 24 -:
- Adhesion promoter layers 17 and 24 may be dispensed with, especially if subsequent overprinting of the cover film is not considered.
- Carrier film 15 -
- Polyester (PET) or polycarbonate (PC) films with a thickness between 6 and 12 ⁇ m have proven to be suitable.
- Thermoplastic deformable base coat 19 -
- This layer usually has a thickness of 0.8 to 2 ⁇ m, the layer thickness depending on the type of structure to be introduced.
- the base lacquer layer 19 is also applied in a printing process and can be composed approximately as follows: Parts by weight Ethyl acetate 350 toluene 200 Butyl acetate 130 Polymethyl methacrylate (softening point approx. 170 ° C) 270 Styrene copolymer (softening point approx. 100 ° C) 50
- the metallization 22 consists, for example, of aluminum, chromium, gold or silver applied in a vacuum, and depending on the material used, the comminution can be carried out by suitable methods, for example by evaporation, sputtering, etc. Instead of the metal layer, a suitable dielectric, for example TiO 2 or ZnS, can also be applied.
- a metallization is expediently applied over the entire, correspondingly deformed surface of the thermoplastic base lacquer layer 19 and then partially in a known method away.
- thermoplastic base lacquer layer 19 is provided with a detachable layer in the unstructured areas, for example by printing in accordance with the register, before the metal layer is applied. After the metallization, this releasable layer and thus the metallization in the region of the releasable layer are then removed again.
- the thickness of the metallization or the dielectric layer is, for example, 60 to 20 ⁇ .
- Transparent protective lacquer layer 23 -
- This layer has a thickness of 1 to 5 ⁇ m, preferably 2 to 3 ⁇ m, it being possible for the thickness in the regions where the additional lacquer layer 25 is provided to be thinner than in the regions without such an additional lacquer layer.
- the thickness of the protective lacquer layer 23 depends on the respective mechanical requirements, which are normally not too high, because on the one hand the size of the opening 4 is limited and on the other hand the cover film 5 is preferably applied in this way to the surface 6 of the carrier 2 that the decorative layer 16 points to the surface 6 of the carrier 2, so that the strong mechanical stress occurs on the side of the carrier film 15.
- the transparent protective lacquer layer can be composed as follows -: Parts by weight Methyl ethyl ketone 300 Ethyl acetate 170 Cyclohexanone 100 Hydrofunctional acrylate (60% in xylene / EPA, OH number 140) 200 Cellulose nitrate (low viscosity, 65% in alcohol) 80 Aromatic isocyanate (50% in ethyl acetate, NCO content 8%) 150
- the protective lacquer layer 23 and, if appropriate, the additional lacquer layer 25 are also normally applied in a printing process, the additional lacquer layer 25 being to be printed on before the protective lacquer layer 23.
- the composition of the additional, transparent lacquer layer 25 it should be noted that it can be composed essentially like the protective lacquer layer 23, but additionally contains a transparent dye.
- the cover film 5 is thus first produced, for example in a manner which is fundamentally known from the production of hot stamping films, the difference between the cover film 5 and a hot stamping film, however, being that care is taken with the cover film 5 that the decorative layer 16 adheres firmly to the carrier film 15, while the essence of a hot stamping film can be seen precisely in the fact that the decorative layer can easily be detached from the carrier film.
- the cover film is then preferably rolled onto the carrier 2 of the value document, e.g. Security 1 applied, the window-like opening 4, e.g. by punching. Subsequently or simultaneously, the carrier 2 is compressed to produce the depression 8, which e.g. can be done by means of rollers using correspondingly high pressures.
- the covering film 5 is now applied to the surface 6 of the carrier 2 by rolling it off.
- the covering film 5 can be fixed on the carrier 2 either by the protective lacquer layer 23 or the adhesion promoter layer 24 of the decorative layer 16 of the covering film 5 having corresponding adhesive properties or additionally providing the decorative layer 16 of the covering film 5 with a hardening adhesive layer, not shown in the drawing is.
- a further possibility is to provide the surface 6 of the carrier 2 with an adhesive application in the region of the depression 8 before the cover film 5 is applied, by means of which the cover film 5 is then fixed to the carrier 2.
- Which of the two measures is taken depends on the type or composition of the carrier 2, the decorative layer 16 of the cover film 5 and the respective intended use, although it is also conceivable to provide adhesive on both the cover film 5 and the carrier 2.
- the surface 6 and possibly also the underside of the carrier 2 can then be overprinted with the coherent pattern 14 in a conventional printing process in order to further improve security.
- the individual securities 1 cut out of the paper composite (web, sheet) forming several supports 2.
- the exemplary embodiment of the document of value described is a security.
- the inventive idea can also be used in the same way for documents of value made of materials other than paper, e.g. Credit cards, ID cards etc. are used.

Abstract
Description
Kreditkarten, Ausweise etc..The invention relates to documents of value, in particular securities, such as Banknotes, checks, travelers checks or shares, but also documents that do not exist or only partially exist, e.g. Credit cards, ID cards etc.
Especially with regard to the possibilities that modern color copiers and other reproduction systems offer, there is an urgent need to provide security documents with special security elements that make counterfeiting with the use of such devices difficult. To this end, there have been a variety of options A variety of options have already been proposed for this purpose.
For example, it is known to provide security documents such as securities, cards, ID cards, etc. with security elements in the form of reflecting surfaces. These reflective areas are usually reproduced as black areas by a color copier. Here, however, there is the possibility of subsequently applying a corresponding, metallic, shiny layer.
A further improvement in counterfeit security arises when security elements in the form of structures that are effective in terms of refraction or diffraction, so-called diffraction structures, e.g. Holograms, so-called pixelgrams etc., can be used. However, these security elements are comparatively complex to manufacture.
It is also already known to design security elements for documents of value in such a way that they are particularly suitable for viewing transmitted light. For example, AU-PS 488 652 describes security documents which consist of several interconnected plastic sheets, at least one optically variable security element being arranged between these sheets and a transparent window being provided in at least one of the cover sheets in the area of this security element, so that the security element can be viewed through the window. In order to attach the security elements, the state of the art is used, for example, to create a recess in a plastic sheet provided in the interior of the document, into which the security element is inserted.
The security element is then fixed in the recess by cover films applied on both sides. On the one hand, such a procedure has the disadvantage that the attachment of the security element causes considerable difficulties and, in particular, a full-area lamination of comparatively large areas of plastic films is required. The inclusion of the security element between the two films often leads to a significant deterioration in the brilliance and thus impairment of the recognizability of the security element, in particular under unfavorable lighting conditions. The known document can be used as a security, in particular banknotes, only with difficulty because it differs fundamentally in terms of its surface quality and other properties from the properties of paper known and familiar in particular in the case of banknotes.
It is also known from Australian banknotes to print transparent supports on the surface in such a way that a certain area is window-like, i.e. transparent, is left. However, here too it is important to forego the advantages of paper. For example, it is not possible to add a watermark. There are also different tactile properties (lack of special grip) compared to paper, which are known to the citizen. The proven processing, processing and circulating properties of paper are also eliminated. Finally, it is not possible in a pure printing process to produce special security elements, for example diffraction structures.
From EP-A-0 013 557 a document of value is known which consists of a carrier which has a window hole into which a security feature is inserted and which is laminated by outer transparent films.
It is also already known to attach security threads as security elements in documents of value, the arrangement being such that the thread or a corresponding band is partially exposed on the surface, for additional. to be able to test preferably security features based on optical effects on the thread or tape, for example printing patterns, diffraction structures, etc. EP-PS 0 229 645 describes the production of a security paper with an embedded security element in the form of a thread or tape in such a way that two separate paper layers are formed, the paper layers having areas of reduced thickness or openings. The two layers of paper are brought together and during the bringing together the tape serving as a security element is inserted. The arrangement can also be chosen so that the openings in the two layers of paper (on the top and bottom of the tape serving as a security element) overlap one another, so that the security element is exposed on both sides of the paper web by one To allow viewing of the security element also in transmitted light. In practice, however, it has been shown that it has so far not been possible to produce corresponding documents. In general, the arrangement has rather only been chosen such that the security thread or the security element was alternately exposed on the top or bottom. A major deficiency of the known procedure is in any case to be seen in the fact that the security threads, after they have to be worked into the paper web, may only have a relatively small width in order not to disturb the cohesion of the paper itself. However, in order for the security threads to have sufficient tensile strength despite their narrow width, it is necessary To use security threads with a correspondingly large thickness, which can lead to undesirable thickening of the securities produced from the corresponding paper web, these thickenings in the case of stacked securities - despite the so-called wobble technique - always being in a relatively narrow range, which leads to a bad one Flatness of the sheets and problems with the processing of the document leads.
The invention is therefore based on the object of proposing a document of value with a window-like security element which is suitable for transmitted light and which can be produced easily and without impairing the recognizability of the security element, the problems known in the production of security papers with embedded security thread not being expected during manufacture are. However, it should be ensured that counterfeiting of the security element by pure printing or color copying is impossible, but at the same time there are a multitude of different design options for the security element.
This object is achieved according to the invention by a document of value with the features of patent claim 1.
According to the invention, attempts are no longer made to store a security element in the carrier. Because of the arrangement according to the invention, it is readily possible to cover a cover with comparatively large dimensions
use, which means that thin films can be used. At the same time, a procedure according to the invention also offers the possibility of providing windows with relatively large dimensions, whereas only very small dimensions could be achieved in the known windows produced during paper production. Since the windows can be large, even if additional security elements are present, there is also the option of keeping a sufficiently large area of the cover film completely transparent. In this case, when a copy is made with a color copier or other reproduction device, the background will show through in the area of the window, so that the color of the background appears at this point in the reproduction. In this way, counterfeits can generally be easily identified. Furthermore, the authenticity of the document of value can also be easily determined by the user, since the presence or absence of a transparent area of the document of value can also be readily ascertained with the unarmed eye. Covering the opening of the carrier by means of the cover film has the advantage that, despite the presence of one or more openings, the stability of the document of value does not suffer.
On the other hand, the use of a cover film offers further design options for the security element. Variations of the security element are also possible due to the different shape of the window-like opening or variation in the positioning of the opening or attachment of several, possibly different, openings.
To both undisturbed stacking of value documents, especially of securities such as To enable banknotes, as well as to make it difficult to remove the cover film and, in particular, to prevent the cover film from being unintentionally detached if possible, the cover film is expediently arranged in a recess in the carrier surface which includes the window-like opening, the carrier being particularly advantageous for forming the Depression is compressed. The compression simultaneously smoothes the surface of the carrier, which can be advantageous for certain security features. For example, when security features are applied to paper in a hot stamping process, their optical efficiency is reduced by the relatively rough paper surface, which can be avoided by appropriately smoothing the paper surface serving as a carrier.
According to the invention, the opening can be produced in a simple manner by means of a punching or cutting process, with the usual punching methods and as Cutting methods especially laser cutting should be mentioned.
In principle, it is possible to create the deepening and the opening in separate work steps. In order to avoid special adjustment work and to achieve a good alignment of the opening compared to the recess, it is expedient to proceed in such a way that the opening is produced together with the recess in one operation, which is e.g. can be achieved by using suitable tools, for example special embossing and punching rollers.
The application of the depression and the application of the cover film is simplified if the cover film extends across the entire width or length of the document of value, i.e. a recess from edge to edge is provided. In such a case, the procedure is expediently such that the cover film is applied to the carrier of the document of value, while at the same time forming the recess, by means of pressure, preferably laminated onto the carrier in a rolling process.
When using a lamination process for applying the cover film to the document of value, a particularly favorable production method can be achieved. Namely, the window-like opening, possibly also several openings, can be made in one pass through a corresponding machine, after which the cover film is then laminated on in a further step.
To further improve counterfeit security, the invention provides that at least on one side of the carrier, the cover film and at least the adjoining surface area of the value document are overprinted with a coherent pattern. With such a configuration, any manipulation of the cover film is immediately visible because pressure can easily be provided at which even the slightest displacements clearly appear.
In order to facilitate overprinting of the cover film, it can expediently carry an adhesion promoter (primer) layer at least on its free side, which is not attached to the value document or the carrier forming it.
Further possibilities for improving the security against forgery of a document of value arise if, according to the invention, the cover film is a laminating film which consists of a transparent carrier film and a decorative layer adhering firmly to it, the decorative layer, which preferably comprises at least one lacquer layer, at least in a partial area of the Opening is also transparent. The decorative layer can be specially designed graphically using various methods known per se, in order to create additional recognition options for an original value document. However, it is always important that the decorative layer in the area of the opening is at least partially transparent, because only then will the effect primarily aimed for by the invention be retained.
It can furthermore be expedient for the cover film to be provided with at least one special security feature, preferably based on optical effects, and for at least a partial area of the surface area of the The breakthrough is left transparent, advantageously at least one security feature being formed by a diffraction structure and / or thin-layer arrangement that is effective in terms of refraction and / or diffraction. In addition to such diffraction structures or thin-layer arrangements as a security feature, the cover film can also comprise, for example, reflective surfaces, special imprints, for example in the form of micro-script, etc. It is expedient if at least one of the security features is arranged in the area of the opening, because it can then be, for example, such a security feature that authenticity can only be checked in transmitted light, with transmitted light methods in particular using advantages when using automatic testing devices .
When using a laminating film as a covering film, which has a decorative layer and at least one diffraction structure as a security feature, the decorative layer is expediently constructed in such a way that - starting from the carrier film - it has an at least partially removed surface of the carrier film provided with the diffraction structure serving as a security feature, comprises a reflective layer at least in the region of the diffraction structure and a transparent protective lacquer layer at least in the region of the opening. In this respect, the structure of the decorative layer in the laminating film according to the invention basically corresponds to the decorative layer structure known per se from hot stamping foils for security purposes with a diffraction structure, for example EP 0 559 069 A1. It can also be used to apply the various layers of lacquer, to introduce the diffraction structure and to produce some of the layers Metallization, the processes known in principle in connection with the production of hot stamping foils are used, which is why these processes will not be discussed in more detail here. Of course, it would also be conceivable to incorporate a diffraction structure directly into the carrier film, that is to say to dispense with a special base lacquer layer if a suitable carrier film is used.
If, as further provided according to the invention, the cover film is fastened to the carrier in such a way that its decorative layer faces the surface of the carrier, one obtains the advantage that the surface of the cover film carrying the decorative layer is practically deepened and thus to a certain extent against mechanical ones Stress is arranged protected. In addition, a special adhesive layer for attaching the cover film to the document of value may be dispensed with, namely when the decorative layer, at least its transparent protective lacquer layer, already has sufficiently adhesive properties.
A further possibility according to the invention is that the decorative layer carries a layer of a curable adhesive on the side opposite the carrier film, it being possible, for example, to use reaction adhesives which are only exposed to the appropriate heat or radiation, for example IR or UV radiation. fully react and harden. The use of such adhesives has the advantage that detachment of the cover film when the adhesive has hardened is impossible without damaging the value document itself.
Finally, it can be advantageous if the carrier has an adhesive application in the area used to fasten the covering film, although it may be sufficient to provide only this adhesive application on the carrier, but it may also be expedient if the covering film is additionally provided despite the adhesive application on the carrier is provided with an appropriate adhesive layer. If only the carrier is provided with the adhesive application, the advantage is achieved that possible carryover of glue in the area of the opening can be avoided.

The security 1 shown schematically in FIG. Furthermore, there is a fundamentally corresponding structure for other value documents, for example credit cards, ID cards or the like. intended.
The security according to FIG. 1 consists of a
According to FIGS. 1 and 2, the
It can be seen in particular from FIG. 2 that the cover film is arranged in a
The
As can be seen in FIG. 1, the
Furthermore, as indicated in FIG. 1, the cover film can be provided outside the area corresponding to the window-like opening with at least one additional, e.g. be provided on the basis of optical
An undesired detachment of the
It follows from the above that a document of value, e.g. a security 1 according to the invention offers a multitude of further possibilities for forming security features compared to the previously known security documents, but it must always be ensured that in the area of the at least one window-like opening 4 - of course, several openings could also be provided - the
This
The opposite surface of the
In the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 3, the
For this purpose, the
The
Another possibility for making the
The diffraction structure in the
While the
These layers have a thickness of 0.2 to 2, preferably 0.5 to 1.2 microns. Adhesion promoter layers 17 and 24 may be dispensed with, especially if subsequent overprinting of the cover film is not considered.
This is an optically clear, ie perfectly transparent, suitable film, which should be as thin as possible so as not to stick to the security, but on the other hand must have sufficient strength. Polyester (PET) or polycarbonate (PC) films with a thickness between 6 and 12 µm have proven to be suitable.
Die Stärke der Metallisierung bzw. der Dielektrikum-Schicht beträgt z.B. 60 bis 20 å.These structures are known per se and are embossed into the
This layer has a thickness of 1 to 5 μm, preferably 2 to 3 μm, it being possible for the thickness in the regions where the
The
When producing a document of value, for example a security 1 according to the invention, the
The cover film is then preferably rolled onto the
After the
Kreditkarten, Ausweisen etc. Anwendung finden. The exemplary embodiment of the document of value described is a security. However, the inventive idea can also be used in the same way for documents of value made of materials other than paper, e.g. Credit cards, ID cards etc. are used.
