Definitions
- the invention relates to protective clothing, in particular gloves for protecting the hand from mechanical injuries caused by pointed objects, for example when sorting rubbish by syringes present in the rubbish, which are provided with a plurality of individual, scale-like overlapping metal plates which are enclosed between two layers of material.
- Protective clothing of the above type designed as a glove is the subject of WO 88/06413.
- the glove shown in this document is primarily intended for workers in sawmills and joinery and is intended to protect against injury from saw blades and chains.
- the flakes enclosed in the glove in the form of scales should consist of firm, hard material.
- the document suggests a thickness of 60 ⁇ m in the event that the plates are made of stainless steel.
- the flexibility of the glove comes about, just like a knight's armor made up of individual, rigid plates, in that the plates can move as a whole relative to one another when the hand is moved.
- the scaling of rigid platelets means that when the hand is strongly curved, individual platelets no longer touch one another, but only along one edge or, in the case of circular platelets, at one point. In unfavorable cases, this can mean that the glove can be pierced with a needle aligned parallel to the plane of a plate.
- US-A-5,200,263 also describes gloves for use in hospitals and laboratories, where the greatest possible flexibility of the gloves is important.
- small plastic plates are integrated into a plastic layer and punched out of a steel foil. These plates are distributed as evenly as possible in the material and are all aligned in the plane of the glove by a rolling process. Since, as a rule, there are always several plates overlapping one another, it can be expected that a needle penetrating the glove will come into contact with such a plate and therefore cannot pierce it. However, due to the random distribution of the platelets, there is no complete certainty in this regard.
- the invention is based on the problem of designing protective clothing of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that it offers the greatest possible security against piercing pointed objects, but is nevertheless as flexible as possible.
- the plates consist of a metal which is elastically flexible when the protective clothing is used.
- a glove according to the invention serving as protective clothing is far more flexible than comparable gloves.
- it offers greater security against puncturing with a needle, because the grips bend when they are gripped and therefore their overlap is preserved, while in the case of rigid, scaled flakes, these tip over along their edges.
- the protective clothing according to the invention is therefore particularly suitable as a glove for use in hospitals and for sorting waste.
- the platelets consist of high-alloy stainless steel and have a thickness of 40 ⁇ m.
- the individual plates with their overlapping areas can slide on one another with particularly little friction if, according to another development of the invention, the plates are individually sewn into a cover made of polyamide fabric. At the same time, such a sheath prevents the platelets with possibly sharp edges from cutting through the material layers of the glove.
- the coating of the platelets with polyamide fabric also has the advantage that the platelets do not have to be provided with a hole for fastening, which would represent a potential puncture channel, but can be sewn on with polyamide fabric.
- this construction contributes to flexibility, since the area covered by the overlapping of the plates (shielding the hole) can be significantly smaller.
- the body With protective clothing, the body only comes into contact with skin-friendly material, and it is easy to seal the protective clothing if, according to another development of the invention, the two layers of material are jersey layers and the outer layer of material has an outside, liquid-tight coating.
- the material layers from synthetic materials, aramid, leather or other materials.
- the plates can be fixed in protective clothing in various ways. It is particularly flexible if the overlapping platelets are fixed by seams or rivets which lead through the two material layers and the platelets or even only through the two material layers.
- the manufacturing costs are particularly low if the overlapping plates are fixed by adhesive.
- a particularly flexible protective clothing is obtained if, according to another embodiment of the invention, the overlapping plates are arranged in pockets fixed to the jersey layers.
- FIG. 1 shows two layers of material 1, 2 of jersey lying on top of one another, between which a metal foil 3 is enclosed in the palm of the hand.
- This metal foil 3 consists of a plurality of flakes lying one above the other in a scale-like manner, such as, for example, the flakes 4, 5, 6.
- the metal foil 3 and thus also all the flakes 4, 5, 6 preferably consist of alloy steel.
- the outer layer of material 2 is provided with a coating 7, which is preferably produced by coating the glove in latex or a plastic.
- Figure 2 also illustrates the design of the glove. This has a sleeve 8 or cuff, which is coated or not coated. A seam 9 is indicated by a dash-dotted line. Overall, similar to a quilt, several such seams 9 are provided, each of which leads through the material layers 1, 2 and the metal foil and thereby fix the plates 4, 5.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to protective clothing, in particular gloves for protecting the hand from mechanical injuries caused by pointed objects, for example when sorting rubbish by syringes present in the rubbish, which are provided with a plurality of individual, scale-like overlapping metal plates which are enclosed between two layers of material.
Protective clothing of the above type designed as a glove is the subject of WO 88/06413. The glove shown in this document is primarily intended for workers in sawmills and joinery and is intended to protect against injury from saw blades and chains. As can be expressly read in the scripture, the flakes enclosed in the glove in the form of scales should consist of firm, hard material. In order not to make the glove unnecessarily heavy, the document suggests a thickness of 60 μm in the event that the plates are made of stainless steel. The flexibility of the glove comes about, just like a knight's armor made up of individual, rigid plates, in that the plates can move as a whole relative to one another when the hand is moved. The scaling of rigid platelets means that when the hand is strongly curved, individual platelets no longer touch one another, but only along one edge or, in the case of circular platelets, at one point. In unfavorable cases, this can mean that the glove can be pierced with a needle aligned parallel to the plane of a plate.
With the gloves according to the mentioned WO 88/06413, which are intended for rough work, the flexibility possible by the scaling of the metal plates is sufficient. However, other work, such as sorting rubbish, requires more delicate work because it involves handling things that are light in weight and small in size. Therefore, a particularly high degree of flexibility is required.
Wegen der wahllosen Verteilung der Plättchen ist jedoch in dieser Hinsicht keine völlige Sicherheit gegeben.US-A-5,200,263 also describes gloves for use in hospitals and laboratories, where the greatest possible flexibility of the gloves is important. In order to prevent puncturing the gloves with needles from syringes, which could result in a dangerous infection from, for example, hepatitis or AIDS, small plastic plates are integrated into a plastic layer and punched out of a steel foil.
The invention is based on the problem of designing protective clothing of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that it offers the greatest possible security against piercing pointed objects, but is nevertheless as flexible as possible.
This problem is solved according to the invention in that the plates consist of a metal which is elastically flexible when the protective clothing is used.
With such protective clothing, the flexibility is achieved by the flaking of the plates and by their elastic deformability. As a result, for example, a glove according to the invention serving as protective clothing is far more flexible than comparable gloves. At the same time, it offers greater security against puncturing with a needle, because the grips bend when they are gripped and therefore their overlap is preserved, while in the case of rigid, scaled flakes, these tip over along their edges. The protective clothing according to the invention is therefore particularly suitable as a glove for use in hospitals and for sorting waste.
Protective clothing is particularly flexible and secure against puncturing with injection needles if, according to an advantageous development of the invention, the platelets consist of high-alloy stainless steel and have a thickness of 40 μm.
When the hand wearing a glove is moved, the individual plates with their overlapping areas can slide on one another with particularly little friction if, according to another development of the invention, the plates are individually sewn into a cover made of polyamide fabric. At the same time, such a sheath prevents the platelets with possibly sharp edges from cutting through the material layers of the glove.
The coating of the platelets with polyamide fabric also has the advantage that the platelets do not have to be provided with a hole for fastening, which would represent a potential puncture channel, but can be sewn on with polyamide fabric.
In addition, this construction contributes to flexibility, since the area covered by the overlapping of the plates (shielding the hole) can be significantly smaller.
With protective clothing, the body only comes into contact with skin-friendly material, and it is easy to seal the protective clothing if, according to another development of the invention, the two layers of material are jersey layers and the outer layer of material has an outside, liquid-tight coating. In principle, it is of course also possible to form the material layers from synthetic materials, aramid, leather or other materials.
The plates can be fixed in protective clothing in various ways. It is particularly flexible if the overlapping platelets are fixed by seams or rivets which lead through the two material layers and the platelets or even only through the two material layers.
The manufacturing costs are particularly low if the overlapping plates are fixed by adhesive.
A particularly flexible protective clothing is obtained if, according to another embodiment of the invention, the overlapping plates are arranged in pockets fixed to the jersey layers.
