Definitions
- the innovation relates to a belt buckle for seat belt systems, in particular a small-sized buckle, consisting of a buckle housing with a locking mechanism containing an ejector, with a release button and with at least one eyelet for fastening a first end of the webbing, the housing and the button being made of plastic, and at least two further end pieces held by the mechanism in the working position for further webbing ends, the end pieces each having a latching arm and the latching arms being held in a predetermined plug-in position relative to one another in the working position and unlockable by means of the release button with the assistance of a metal spring actuating the ejector.
- the entire locking mechanism consists of chrome-plated, steel parts. Furthermore, the release button is provided in the area of the top of the lock housing.
- the metal individual parts of the locking mechanism result in relatively high manufacturing costs and lead to a correspondingly increased total weight of the buckle, which for a secured toddler, especially when driving for a long time, usually becomes a disturbing burden.
- the release button is in the area of the top of the lock housing, the thumb pressure on the button for opening the lock also affects the stomach of the toddler, which is understandably uncomfortable for the child; unless the lock is opened manually so that the index finger is positioned as an abutment behind the lock housing and the key is then pressed with the thumb, which is, however, inconvenient.
- the object of the innovation is to improve a buckle of the type mentioned in the introduction so that the buckle is cheaper to manufacture while maintaining its compact design and mechanical strength, lighter in weight and more user-friendly.
- the solution to this problem is based on the belt buckle mentioned in the introduction and is characterized in that the entire belt buckle, with the exception of the ejector spring, is made of plastic, that the latching arms of the end pieces are designed as latching tongues lying one above the other in the inserted position and so engaging in the closing mechanism, that the closing mechanism opposite, the latching tongues of the end pieces between resilient counter latching tongues and that the release button unlocking the latching tongues of the end pieces is provided on the one narrow side of the lock housing.
- the latching tongue of each end piece has a latching nose which projects outwards transversely to its longitudinal extension and which has a stop shoulder of the corresponding one Counter locking tongue of the locking mechanism can be brought into engagement or stands.
- the counter-latching tongues also have inward-facing end parts at their free end region, and the lateral release button is provided with a spreading element which interacts with the mentioned end parts for moving the counter-latching tongues apart for the purpose of unlocking.
- the lock housing is provided with a recessed grip on its other narrow side, which lies opposite the release button.
- Such a buckle is considerably lighter in weight and at a much lower cost while maintaining its compactness and mechanical strength, since with the exception of the ejector spring all other components are made of plastic. Opening the belt buckle is also quicker and more child-friendly, since the opening pressure is now parallel to the length of the buckle. Another advantage is that the unmistakably interacting belt end pieces do not negatively affect the compactness of the belt buckle, since the locking arms of these end pieces are designed to be inserted into the lock housing for latching.
- the belt buckle shown which is mainly used for seat belt systems in motor vehicles, namely for belt systems for small children, consists of a buckle housing 1 made of plastic, which in the usual way has an eyelet 2 for fastening a first webbing end, generally with a third designated locking mechanism and two further webbing end pieces 4 and 5 for further webbing ends, which are attached to it in a known manner. Since these locks are mainly used for belt systems for small children, these locks are small in size.
- the locking mechanism 3 constructed according to the latching principle consists of an upper counter-latching tongue 6, a lower counter-latching tongue 7, an ejector 8 and an ejector spring 9 which is supported on the one hand in a blind hole 10 of the ejector and on the other hand on a wall part 11 of the mechanism 3.
- the frame of the mechanism 3 has a crossbar 12, to which the said first end of the webbing is fastened in a manner known per se.
- the two webbing end pieces 4, 5 consist of two locking arms 13 and 14 which, as shown in FIG. 1, engage one another in the closing mechanism 3 and have eyelet parts 15 known per se at their outer end, with which the aforementioned further webbing ends are fastened in a manner known per se will.
- the locking arms 13 and 14 are designed as flat locking tongues, which are assembled one above the other and are designed in a predetermined manner for this purpose to ensure that they are only in the correct position can be plugged into each other in the mechanism 3, it also being ensured, of course, that the plugging in can also take place only in a certain position.
- the latching tongues 13 and 14 have at their inner end a latching nose 16 and 17 which projects outwards transversely to their longitudinal extension and which has a stop shoulder 18 and 19 of the counter latching tongues 6 or 7 come to the plant.
- a projection 20 is provided, with both projections 20 lying directly opposite one another, which ensures that the locking tongues 13, 14 and thus the belt end pieces 4, 5 can only be inserted into the mechanism 3 in a certain position .
- the counter-latching tongues 6 and 7 of the mechanism 3 permit the free passage of the projections 20 when the belt end pieces 4, 5 are snapped in and out.
- the ejector 8 bears against the detents 16, 17 in order to be able to eject the belt end pieces 4, 5, as will be explained.
- the counter-latching tongues 6 and 7 of the closing mechanism 3 are designed to be resilient by using appropriate plastic material for this purpose, and have inclined sliding surfaces 21 and 22, so that these tongues can be spread apart when the latching lugs 16 and 17 of the belt end pieces 4, 5 slide along them .
- the locking lugs are preferably also provided with inclined sliding surfaces 23 and 24.
- FIG. 1 the entire belt buckle is shown in the assembled and locked state. So that the end pieces 4, 5 can now be unlocked, the counter-latching tongues 6 and 7 are provided with inwardly projecting end parts 25 and 26, which project beyond the latching lugs 16 and 17 to the front. According to FIG. 2, the end parts 25, 26 are provided with a lateral bevel 27, these bevels forming a V-shaped notch. A correspondingly shaped expansion element 28 of a release button 29 made of plastic cooperates with this notch. It is clear that when the button 29 is pressed, the counter-latching tongues 6 and 7 move apart, so that the belt end pieces 4, 5 can be ejected.
- the ejector 8 is arranged laterally within the mechanism 3, as shown in FIG. 2.
- the ejector 7 is thus essentially opposite the release button 29.
- Figure 2 also shows that the release button 29 is provided on one side narrow side of the lock housing 1, while a recessed grip 30 is provided on the opposite, other narrow side of the lock housing.
- the index finger can now be gripped in the recessed grip 30 while the thumb of the same hand presses the release button 29. This will open the lock.
- the button can be provided with a preferably injection-molded spring 31.
- the spring is supported in the interior of the lock, e.g. on the lock housing 1 or on the lock mechanism 3.
- the locking mechanism 3 is of compact construction and that the housing 1 also has a rigid shape in that the large top and bottom sides of the lock housing 1 have no opening, so that thereby there is an overall mechanically strong lock construction.

Description
The innovation relates to a belt buckle for seat belt systems, in particular a small-sized buckle, consisting of a buckle housing with a locking mechanism containing an ejector, with a release button and with at least one eyelet for fastening a first end of the webbing, the housing and the button being made of plastic, and at least two further end pieces held by the mechanism in the working position for further webbing ends, the end pieces each having a latching arm and the latching arms being held in a predetermined plug-in position relative to one another in the working position and unlockable by means of the release button with the assistance of a metal spring actuating the ejector.
Small belt buckles for seat belt systems, which are usually intended for small children Belt systems used in motor vehicles, the entire locking mechanism consists of chrome-plated, steel parts. Furthermore, the release button is provided in the area of the top of the lock housing.
The metal individual parts of the locking mechanism result in relatively high manufacturing costs and lead to a correspondingly increased total weight of the buckle, which for a secured toddler, especially when driving for a long time, usually becomes a disturbing burden. There the release button is in the area of the top of the lock housing, the thumb pressure on the button for opening the lock also affects the stomach of the toddler, which is understandably uncomfortable for the child; unless the lock is opened manually so that the index finger is positioned as an abutment behind the lock housing and the key is then pressed with the thumb, which is, however, inconvenient.
The object of the innovation is to improve a buckle of the type mentioned in the introduction so that the buckle is cheaper to manufacture while maintaining its compact design and mechanical strength, lighter in weight and more user-friendly.
The solution to this problem is based on the belt buckle mentioned in the introduction and is characterized in that the entire belt buckle, with the exception of the ejector spring, is made of plastic, that the latching arms of the end pieces are designed as latching tongues lying one above the other in the inserted position and so engaging in the closing mechanism, that the closing mechanism opposite, the latching tongues of the end pieces between resilient counter latching tongues and that the release button unlocking the latching tongues of the end pieces is provided on the one narrow side of the lock housing.
In a preferred further development of the object according to the innovation, the latching tongue of each end piece has a latching nose which projects outwards transversely to its longitudinal extension and which has a stop shoulder of the corresponding one Counter locking tongue of the locking mechanism can be brought into engagement or stands. The counter-latching tongues also have inward-facing end parts at their free end region, and the lateral release button is provided with a spreading element which interacts with the mentioned end parts for moving the counter-latching tongues apart for the purpose of unlocking. According to a further preferred feature, the lock housing is provided with a recessed grip on its other narrow side, which lies opposite the release button.
Such a buckle is considerably lighter in weight and at a much lower cost while maintaining its compactness and mechanical strength, since with the exception of the ejector spring all other components are made of plastic.

- FIG. 4 shows a section along the line IV-IV in FIG. 3,
- 5 shows a simplified view according to arrow A in FIG. 4.
According to FIG. 1, the belt buckle shown, which is mainly used for seat belt systems in motor vehicles, namely for belt systems for small children, consists of a buckle housing 1 made of plastic, which in the usual way has an
The two
As can be clearly seen from FIGS. 1, 3 and 4, the
With the exception of the
The
In Figure 1, the entire belt buckle is shown in the assembled and locked state. So that the
In order to avoid a disruptive, possibly possible rattling of the
From Figures 1 to 5 in connection with the above description it follows that the locking mechanism 3 is of compact construction and that the housing 1 also has a rigid shape in that the large top and bottom sides of the lock housing 1 have no opening, so that thereby there is an overall mechanically strong lock construction.
