Description

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a container with a jacket made of cardboard or the like. is wound and is preferably closed with a metal lid that can be torn open along a predetermined breaking line, as well as a device and a container manufactured with it.

Such metal lids, which have become known as the "ring pull", have proven themselves in practice, since on the one hand they close the container very tightly, but on the other hand they are easy to open without any tools. However, they also have a considerable disadvantage, which is that the predetermined breaking line runs at a distance from the outer edge, as a result of which a free edge which projects into the interior of the container remains when it is torn open.

This free edge, which is extremely sharp, poses a considerable risk of injury.

Attempts have been made in practice to reduce this risk of injury.

In the case of a solution which has become known in practice, this is to be achieved in that a further edge with a rounded edge is arranged above the edge which arises when it is torn open.

Such a metal cover equipped with an additional edge is relatively expensive and can only protect against contact with the upper edge of the break line. However, it is precisely this upper edge that is much less dangerous than the lower, still unprotected edge due to the scratch line on the top of the lid.

In another solution that has become known in practice, a plastic strip is attached to the outside of the metal cover between its edge and the tear line. Even with this, however, the risk of injury cannot be significantly reduced, since in particular the inner, sharper edge of the tear line is still exposed.

In the case of tin cans, it is also known to form an inwardly projecting bulge into the container jacket below the lid, thereby largely preventing undesired contact with the predetermined breaking line.

Such a bead would be extremely difficult to manufacture in a container wrapped in cardboard. In addition, such a container would then no longer have any compressive strength, so that it would be completely unusable.

The invention has for its object to provide a method of the type mentioned, and a container produced thereafter, with which there is no risk of injury when using a tearable sheet metal cover, but which does not lose its strength.

This object is achieved in that the upper edge of the cardboard casing is rolled inwards in one or more steps and then pressed to form a double flanging, the flanging standing vertically upwards, forming the upper end of the container casing and being connected to the lid can, while the second flange protrudes radially inwards.

This flanging projecting radially inwards effectively prevents accidental contact with the tear-open edge of a possibly existing sheet metal cover.

However, such flanging also entails considerable stiffening of the upper edge of the container.

An advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention also lies in the fact that the flare standing vertically upwards is pressed flat in the horizontal direction.

According to the invention, the flanging projecting inwards can also be pressed flat in the vertical direction.

The stability of the container can be further improved by these pressings. In addition, the attachment of a lid can be made easier.

A device according to the invention for carrying out the method is characterized in that a turntable is provided with a plurality of holding mandrels, each of which is assigned to a processing station, the first of which for. Wrapping the container jacket from a flat cardboard blank or the like. is equipped, while the second station is equipped with a sealing device, preferably an ultrasound sealing device, for producing the longitudinal seam of the container, and that in at least one further A device for flanging a mouth roll is provided in the station, while a pressing device is arranged in a subsequent station, which presses the mouth roll into a double flare and at the same time at least partially presses it flat, and that a cover placement device is also provided, which is provided with a cover magazine and in which the sheet metal cover is pressed with the flare of the double flare standing vertically upwards.

With such a device, the method for producing the aforementioned container can be carried out in a simple and extremely efficient manner.

An inventive container with a jacket made of cardboard or the like. is wound and preferably closed with a metal lid that can be torn open along a predetermined breaking line, characterized in that the container jacket is folded inwards at its upper end, is provided with a flanged edge at this upper end, and that the free one lying on the inside of the container End of the container shell is formed into a further beading which projects inwards and lies below the upper edge.

If a metal lid of the type mentioned is provided, such a container provides reliable protection against contact with the tear-open edge and has excellent stability.

It is also very advantageous if at least one of the two flanges of the container is pressed flat according to the invention.

This will make it easier to attach a lid tert and on the other hand brings a further improvement in the stability of the upper edge of the container.

An exemplary embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawing.
