Description

The present invention relates to a method of making a strip of cardboard having corrugations on one of its faces, on a second flat sheet of paper or of cardboard covering, method of the type according to which glue is first deposited on the tops of said corrugations of the first sheet, which is then heated by radiation said tops of the corrugations after the adhesive has been deposited there and that, finally, said vertices of the corrugations are brought into contact with said second flat sheet.

The invention also relates to a device for implementing the method of the type comprising a first machine, called a "gluer", in which glue is deposited on the tops of said undulations of the first ply, followed by a second machine, called "Double-sided", ensuring contact between the first and second layers and their final bonding, at least one radiant panel with infrared radiation, directed towards the undulations of the first layer, being mounted between these two machines.

To make by gluing a strip of double or triple-sided corrugated cardboard, we first use a first machine, called a "gluer", in which we apply glue on the top of the corrugations of the first layer or any layers additional single-sided corrugated cardboard making up the layers of a strip of corrugated cardboard. The sheets are then conveyed in a second machine called "double-sided" where they are applied one on the other, glued by heating and finally dried.

The bonding of strips of single-sided corrugated cardboard in the "double-sided" requires the implementation and transfer of thermal energy. This heat transfer is generally carried out using an infrared radiation panel placed between the two machines and the radiation of which is directed towards the undulations of the sheet to be bonded. Such a method and the device associated with it are described in US Pat. No. 3,912,573.

The use of the subject of the aforementioned patent therefore makes it possible to produce a strip of multi-sided corrugated cardboard, in which problems of uniformity of the moisture profile are encountered in the width of the cardboard strip at the outlet of the " double sided ". These problems are due in particular to the fact that the infra-red radiation panel acts with a uniform heating power over the width of the strip, without taking account of the values relating to the temperature of the adhesive, to the quantity of adhesive deposited on the tops of the corrugations, at the speed of travel of the product in the device and at the humidity profile in the width of the strip of corrugated cardboard produced.

The invention proposes to remedy these drawbacks. The invention, as characterized in the claims, solves the problem posed by the uniformity of the moisture profile in the width of a strip of cardboard by radiant heating, with different powers in the width, the vertices undulations of the sheet of single-sided corrugated cardboard, using a radiant panel divided into several sectors supplied separately with electric power using a power variator device controlled from a processing device taking into account the information of devices for measuring the temperature and the quantity of adhesive deposited on the corrugations, of a device for measuring the speed of movement of the cardboard in the machine and of a device for measuring the moisture profile of the web of cardboard produced at the exit of the “double-sided” machine.

The advantages obtained thanks to the invention essentially lie in the fact that the moisture profile of the width of cardboard produced can be controlled and made perfectly uniform by adapting the heating conditions through the width of single-sided corrugated cardboard. , this by applying a different heating power to the various sectors of the radiant panel.

The invention will be better understood with the aid of the following description of a nonlimiting exemplary embodiment applied to the production of a strip of “double-sided” corrugated cardboard, with reference to the appended drawings in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic overview of a production line for corrugated cardboard using a device according to the invention,
  • FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the radiant panel equipping the chain of FIG. 1, with its cabinet for supplying electrical power and,
  • - Figure 3 is the curve of the electrical power to be transmitted to the sectors of the radiant panel.

In FIG. 1, the reference 1 designates a “conventional gluing machine for double-double cardboard, followed by a conventional“ double-sided ”machine, the reference 2 of which designates the input frame in which the different plies are applied. one on the other, and whose reference 3 designates the outlet frame, known as "traction", carrying out the traction drive of the sheet 4 of double-double cardboard produced.

Very conventionally, the gluing machine 1 comprises a station 5 for preheating the sheet 6 of cover paper, a station 7 for gluing the first sheet 8 of single-sided corrugated cardboard and a station 9 for gluing the second layer 10 of single-sided corrugated cardboard.

Station 5 includes a return cylinder 11 followed by a smooth cylinder 12, the hollow interior space 13 of which is heated by saturated steam.

Station 7 includes a tray 14 containing glue encrypting approximately 20% of dry extracts and being at a temperature of approximately 30 ° C, thus that a gluing cylinder 15, dipping in the glue tank 14 and continuously rotating in the direction indicated by the arrow.

The adhesive is removed by the cylinder 15 in the tank 14 according to a thickness adjusted by the adjustable center distance existing between the cylinder 15 and the auxiliary cylinder 16, called the doctor-cylinder.

It is deposited by the cylinder 15 on the tops of the corrugations of the sheet 8 of single-sided cardboard, the sheet brought into position by means of a return pulley 18 and maintained during the deposition of the adhesive by a retaining cylinder 17, the latter cylinder being a smooth suction cylinder, the hollow interior space 19 of which is heated with saturated steam.

The sheets 8 and 10 of single-sided cardboard therefore come out of the splicer 1 with the crests of their corrugations covered with glue and the cover paper sheet 6 comes out preheated to a temperature of about 60 ° C. Conventionally, these three plies are then applied to each other in the input frame 2 of the double-sided machine, this frame being equipped with return rollers 31 and 32, as well as a first table 30 heated by steam saturating. The three layers, then united in a strip of double-double cardboard, circulate in the double-sided on other heating tables 33, 34 to exit from the traction frame 3 in the form of double-double cardboard glued and dried. In the drawing, there are the cylinders 35, 36 for driving and pulling the strip 4 fitted to the outlet frame 3 of the double-sided.

A radiant panel 40 fitted, as seen in FIG. 2, with tubes 41 with infrared radiation, is placed between the layers 8 and 10, after the gluer 1 and before the frame 2 for entry of the double-sided , and is directed towards the undulations of the ply 10 as shown diagrammatically in FIG. 1.

The calorific power irradiated by the panel 40 must be all the greater the lower the initial temperature of the glue deposited at the upper gluing station 9, the higher the speed of movement of the cardboard, and the more amount of glue deposited on the ridges of the sheet 10 is greater.

It is therefore advantageous to apply a different radiated power to the radiant panel 40 as a function of these three parameters.

The panel 40 is divided into four sectors 42, 43, 44, 45 (FIG. 2), supplied separately with electrical energy by a power block 46, at different powers depending on the humidity profile measured across the strip 4 at the exit of the double-sided.

A probe 50, such as a thermocouple, placed in the glue tank 24 provides a computer 51 with information representative of the temperature of the glue contained in the tank 24. A humidity sensor 52 provides the computer 51 with information representative of the quantity of glue per square meter deposited on the crests of the corrugations of the sheet 10. A coding wheel 53 provides the computer 51 with information representative of the speed of movement of the cardboard. A humidity profile sensor 54 moves across the strip 4 with a continuous back-and-forth movement, and provides the computer 51 with information representative of the humidity profile in the width of the strip 4 finally produced.

The electrical power to be applied to the sectors 42 to 45 of the panel 40 has been determined experimentally beforehand as a function of a given value of these four parameters. It is represented by curve 60 in FIG. 3, giving the electrical power in KW / m 2 as a function of the speed of movement of the cardboard in m / min, for a given quantity and temperature of glue. Zone 61 represents the differences in power applied according to the humidity measured in the width of the strip 4 finally produced. There is obviously a curve 60 per value of the quantity of glue deposited per square meter and per value of the temperature of the glue.

Les variateurs fournissent en 80, 81, 82, 83 les tensions électriques d'alimentation de chacun des secteurs 42 à 45 du panneau radiant 40.As a function of these data, the computer 51 provides four output information items 70, 71, 72, 73 which are applied to the block 46 supplied with single-phase electrical voltage 220 volts at 75, and equipped with thyristor power variators controlled by the outputs 70 to 73 of the computer. The variators supply at 80, 81, 82, 83 the electrical supply voltages of each of the sectors 42 to 45 of the radiant panel 40.

The electric power applied to each of these sectors is given by the curve 60 of FIG. 3, which represents the average value of the zone 61 as a function of the values measured by the sensor 54 of the humidity profile of the product 4 at the outlet of the double sided.
