Definitions

  • the invention relates to a cap made of plastic material for closing a container mouth consisting of an approximately cylindrical cap wall with an internal thread and a cap base which is provided with an annular sealing lip for sealing on the outside of the container mouth in the mouth area.
  • Such caps are in particular for the - used closing of bottles with carbonated soft drinks.
  • the ring-shaped sealing lip strives for a reliable seal, which is still effective when the cap base bulges outwards under the internal pressure in the container.
  • a sealing cap has become known from CH-PS 607 702, in which the cap bottom merges into a beveled sealing ring which presses against the outside of the container mouth.
  • On the inside of the beveled sealing ring there is an annular sealing lip which, when screwed on, is put over the mouth of the container in the manner of a collar and thus creates an additional seal.
  • DE-OS 26 01 771 described a cap in which the annular sealing lip is arranged obliquely inwards and cooperates with a circumferential groove at the mouth of the container.
  • the inside diameter of the annular sealing lip on the unscrewed closure cap is somewhat smaller from the beginning than the outside diameter of the container mouth. This is to ensure that the sealing lip is in any case pre-stressed against the container mouth.
  • a disadvantage of this configuration is that the sealing lip has to be stretched outwards during the screwing-on process, which requires a correspondingly higher torque during the screwing-on process.
  • the sealing lip could be damaged when screwing onto containers with sharp mouth edges.
  • the expansion of the sealing lip also means that the sealing lip is continuously exposed to a very high tension when the cap is screwed on. As described in particular in DE-OS 26 01 771, this tension is additionally increased when the internal pressure acts on the cap base. However, this can lead to material cracks or even fatigue fractures, which can obviously lead to leaks or even to the explosive blasting off of the closure cap.
  • the inner diameter of the sealing lip before the screwing on of the closure cap is larger than the outer diameter of the container Mouth that the cap base has a clamping device engaging in the container mouth for concentrically compressing the cap base when the closure cap is applied, and that at least the cap base is designed to be elastic in such a way that the sealing lip when the clamping device is inserted into the container mouth by compressing the cap base and reducing the Outside diameter of the cap base can be pressed against the outside of the container mouth.
  • the ring-shaped sealing lip does not have to be stretched when the closure cap is screwed on. Rather, the sealing lip presses against the outside of the container mouth during the screwing-on process.
  • This function is based on the surprising finding that with a suitable elasticity of the cap base, a contraction of the cap base is easily possible by means of a suitable tensioning device, and that the sealing lip can be moved with the aid of this contraction. It is obvious that such an arrangement has considerable advantages over the known prior art.
  • the sealing lip is gently pressed against the container mouth by a radial contraction movement during the screwing-on process. In particular with sharp-edged container mouths, this prevents the sealing lip from being scratched by the forceful insertion.
  • the invention can be implemented particularly advantageously if the tensioning device is an annular inner seal, the inner diameter of which is larger than the inner diameter of the container mouth and which lies sealingly along a sealing line on the inside of the container mouth.
  • the tensioning device advantageously fulfills the function of an additional seal.
  • the top edge of the bottle mouth is sealed inside and out, which significantly improves the sealing effect.
  • a good sealing effect is achieved if the inner wall of the sealing lip is approximately cylindrical. In this way, the inside of the sealing lip lies flat against the outside of the container mouth. In certain applications, however, it is expedient if the inner wall of the sealing lip tapers approximately in the shape of a truncated cone towards the base of the cap. In this way, changes in position of the sealing lip when contracting can be taken into account in advance, so that the inner wall of the sealing lip in turn bears flat against the mouth of the container when the closure cap is screwed on.
  • An additional sealing section can be achieved in that a concentric circular ring surface is arranged as a stop for limiting the screw-on movement within the sealing lip. Limiting the unscrewing process is particularly important because it can also limit the contraction movement. This prevents the sealing lip from contracting too much. The upper edge of the container mouth presses against the circular surface, so that an additional seal is created.
  • a particularly advantageous sealing effect at the upper edge of the container is achieved if the lower edge of the sealing lip is arranged approximately at the level of the sealing line. This is how the forces run on the sealing line and on the sealing part of the sealing lip approximately in the same plane, as a result of which the edge of the container is pressed together.
  • the function of the tensioning device can be improved if it is designed as a depression in the cap base, the wall of which facing the container mouth tapers downward in the shape of a truncated cone.
  • the indentation in the cap base obviously allows the outer edge portion to contract better, since the cap base is recessed in the center in the plane of the contraction movement.
  • the frustoconical design of the recess results in a leverage effect, with the outer edge portion of the cap base being contracted when the container mouth runs onto the frustoconical wall.
  • Such a design of the closure cap is particularly advantageous where the closure cap is made of a relatively rigid material, so that a contraction of the sealing lip in the case of a disc-shaped cap base would only be possible with greater effort.
  • the closure cap is made of polyethylene. With appropriate dimensioning of the sealing cap, this material can be used to pull the sealing lip together without exerting excessive force.
  • a closure cap 1 consists of an approximately cylindrical cap wall 3 with an internal screw thread 18 and a cap base 4.
  • a sealing lip 5 is arranged on the cap base in the area of the connection point 6 between the cap base and the cap wall.
  • a stop 10 for limiting the unscrewing movement is arranged directly inside the sealing lip.
  • the circular stop goes into the inner wall 7 of the sealing lip in a radius 11.
  • a known inner seal 13 takes over the function of the tensioning device for pulling the sealing lip 5.
  • the cross section of the inner seal has an approximately convex outer configuration with a sealing line 16, along which the inner seal rests against the inner wall of the container mouth.
  • the sealing line 16 lies approximately on the same level as the lower edge 9 of the sealing lip 5.
  • An undercut 12 is arranged between the inner seal 13 and the stop 10 in order to give the inner seal a certain flexibility.
  • the inner diameter A of the sealing lip 5 is larger than the outer diameter of the outer wall 8 of the container mouth, shown in broken lines. This results in a game a between the container mouth and the sealing lip.
  • the inner seal 13 is pressed together through the top of the container mouth 17. Since the cap base 4 has a certain elasticity, it takes place thereby also a contraction of the cap base, in particular of the outer region 6 in the direction of the arrow X. This clears the play a and the sealing lip 5 lies sealingly against the outer wall 8 of the container mouth. As shown in FIG. 2, this also results in a measurable contraction of the outer diameter C of the cap wall 3.
  • the original outer diameter C now has a reduced diameter Cl, while the reduced inner diameter Al of the sealing lip corresponds to the outer diameter B of the container mouth.
  • the cap base 4 bulges slightly outwards due to the contraction movement, as a result of which the contact pressure of the sealing lip is further increased.
  • the container mouth 2 can either be made of plastic, glass or another material.
  • the closure cap 1 has a guarantee band 15 on the underside, which is intended to be shrunk onto a bead at the container mouth by hot deformation. When the cap is screwed on for the first time, the guarantee tape 15 is torn open.
  • FIG. 3 shows a modified embodiment in which the cap base 4 has a recess 19.
  • the side wall 20 of the recess is approximately frustoconical, so that a run-up surface for the container mouth is thereby formed.
  • the side wall 20 of the recess 19 thus forms a lever arm with which a contraction in the arrow direction X of the outer region 6 can be achieved in a particularly simple manner.
  • the inner wall 7 of the sealing lip 5 is also approximately frustoconical, so that any change in position of the sealing lip can be taken into account in advance.
  • the inner wall 7 of the sealing lip can also be the respective outer configuration of the loading holding mouth can be adjusted, which can also be frustoconical, for example.
  • other means are also conceivable as a tensioning device for pulling the cap base together.
  • several concentrically arranged wedges could be fastened to the cap base, the wedge surfaces of which run up on the inner edge of the container mouth and in this way pull the cap base together.
