Description

L'invention est relative à un lave-vaisselle.The invention relates to a dishwasher.

A dishwasher usually includes a cycling pump that draws water from a tank to spray it onto the dishes to be cleaned. After this projection the water falls back into the tank and is again sucked up by the pump through a filter. There is also a drain pump to empty the tank at the end of the wash.

We know that it is in our interest to limit the amount of water used to wash dishes in order to reduce, for the user, the operating costs of the machine due, on the one hand, to the price of the water itself said and, on the other hand, the price of heating this water. This is why we have already proposed means making it possible to precisely reach the desired level of water in the dishwasher. Thus, in US Pat. No. 3,415,261, a dishwasher is described in which the stopping of filling with water is interrupted when the water reaches the upper level of a duct, this level corresponding to that desired for the water in the tank. This duct communicates the body of the cycling pump with the atmosphere during filling. This pump, which rotates during this filling, then sucks in a mixture of air and water and the pressure in the pump body is relatively low. This pressure rises suddenly when water enters said conduit, the pump then sucking more air but only water. This sudden increase in pressure is used to interrupt the filling of water.

But the suction of a mixture of air and water during filling causes cavitation and, thus (as has been observed) a relatively large noise, which is particularly annoying for a household appliance.

The dishwasher according to the invention, which is of the same type as that of US Patent 3,415,261, does not have this drawback.

It is characterized in that it is arranged so that, during filling, the cycling pump sucks exclusively (or almost exclusively) air. In this way the operation is noisy during filling while remaining economical in water.

In one embodiment, the dishwasher is arranged in such a way that, during said filling, the water can only enter the pump body through its lower part, the upper part being in communication with the atmosphere via said drove.

The cycling pump may have additional vanes facing the duct which suck in air during filling and help keep the cycling pump primed.

In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the drain pump and the cycling pump are driven by the same motor and, to reduce the noise during draining, the cycling pump has auxiliary vanes (which can be confused with the additional blades mentioned above) defusing this pump from the start of the emptying, the pump body being in connection with the atmosphere via a chimney opening above the free surface of the water in the tank. This chimney thus has a double function: it keeps the cycling pump deactivated during filling and it also serves to deactivate this pump during emptying.

Preferably the vertical duct, or chimney, is coaxial with the wheel of the cycling pump.

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear with the description of one of its embodiments, this being carried out with reference to the attached drawings in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a schematic section of part of a dishwasher according to the invention,
  • FIG. 2 is a diagram of the impeller of a cycling pump of the dishwasher of FIG. 1, and
  • - Figure 3 is a diagram illustrating the operation of the dishwasher of the invention.

The dishwasher comprises at its base a tank or tank 10 in the bottom of which is disposed the drain pump 12 driven by the shaft 13 of an electric motor 14 installed under the bottom of the tank 10. This shaft 13 is therefore vertical and extends above the drain pump 12 to drive the cycling pump 15, the purpose of which is to draw the water 11 in order to spray it under pressure towards baskets (not shown) containing the dishes to be cleaned. To this end, the body 16 of the cycling pump 15 is connected to a first pipe 17 opening into a rotating reel 18 projecting the water onto the dishes. The body of the cycling pump is also connected to another pipe 19 opening into another reel (not shown) located in the upper position in the frame of the dishwasher.

The water which has been projected onto the dishes falls back into the tank 10 and is sucked in again by the pump 15 after passing through a filter 40.

The pump 15 comprises a wheel driven by the shaft 13. This wheel comprises a flange 20 (FIG. 2) from the lower face of which protruding vanes 21 intended to ensure the actual cycling and from the upper face of which are protruding other vanes 23 of height slightly lower than that of the vanes 21 and whose role is to deactivate the pump during emptying in order to avoid annoying noises and to prevent priming during filling.

The vanes 21 and 23 do not have a radial position; they occupy a certain angular sector. Each vane 21 has a circumferential end 21a and an inner end 21b: the angular sector is traversed in the direction of counterclockwise from 21 to 21 b. Similarly, each blade 23 has a circumferential end 23a and an inner end 23b. The angular sector is traversed in the opposite direction to that of the needles of a watch from 23a to 23 b ' In other words the orientation of the blades 23 is in the opposite direction to the orientation of the blades 21.

The body 25 of the drain pump 12 is connected to the evacuation pipe 26 by means of a non-return valve 27 preventing the suction, by the pump 12, of liquid in the pipe 26.

The suction end 28 of the cycling pump 15 is at the base of the body 16 of this pump.

The body 16 of the cycling pump is extended upwards by a duct or chimney 30 whose axis coincides with that of the shaft 13 and therefore with that of the wheels of the pumps 12 and 15.

The body of the cycling pump 15 is in relation to a pressure switch 31 a which thus detects the water pressure produced by this pump. The pressure switch 31 controls a solenoid valve 32 which is open when the tank 10 is to be filled with water.

The setting of this pressure switch is such that as long as the water pressure it detects is below a PN value (Figure 3) the solenoid valve 32 remains open while this solenoid valve is closed when the pressure has reached this value p N .

The operation is as follows:
  • For filling the reservoir 10 the solenoid valve 32 is open. The motor 14 is then energized and rotates in the direction of the arrow F (FIG. 2) corresponding to the normal operation of the cycling pump 21 and to the opposite direction of the normal operation of the drain pump.

Due to the presence, on the one hand, of the chimney 30 which puts the pump body 16 15 in communication with the atmosphere and, on the other hand, auxiliary vanes 23 which create a (weak) air intake during filling, this cycling pump can hardly be started as long as the upper end 31 of the chimney 30 is in the air. The water pressure delivered by this pump is therefore relatively low. Its value is noted p l in FIG. 3. Although this value does not allow jets of water having the pressure necessary to carry out the washing, however, with this pressure, the pump produces small jets which spray the dishes. These small jets of water allow, when the dishwasher is supplied directly with hot water, progressive heating of the dishes and, after washing with hot water, progressive cooling before rinsing with cold water.

The pump 15 does not start until the free surface of the filling water has reached the end 31 and thus enters the body 16 through the chimney 30. The outlet pressure of the pump, detected by the pressure switch 31a, then rises sharply and reaches the value p N. The solenoid valve 32 is then closed to stop filling.

La quantité q correspond au moment où l'eau commence à pénétrer dans la cheminée 30, la surface libre ayant atteint l'extrémité 31.In FIG. 3, the pressure p is plotted on the ordinate and the quantity q of water introduced into the reservoir is shown on the abscissa. The quantity q corresponds to the moment when the water begins to enter the chimney 30, the free surface having reached the end 31.

Once the pump has been primed, it sucks up a greater quantity of water than before it was primed and, consequently, the free surface of the water drops sharply below the level of the end 31. This is however not bothersome because it has been found that the pump does not prime.

Si l'électrovanne 32 est fermée dès que la pression détectée par le pressostat 31a atteint la valeur pN la quantité d'eau introduite est la quantité q1.If the solenoid valve 32 is closed as soon as the pressure detected by the pressure switch 31a reaches the value p N, the quantity of water introduced is the quantity q 1 .

If an additional quantity is desired, for example q 2 (FIG. 3), a control means is provided to keep the solenoid valve 32 open for a determined time after detection of the priming of the pump. Under these conditions the level of the free surface of the water may, when washing the dishes, be above the level of the end 31.

During filling, the operation is not noisy because the pump 15 mainly mixes air. It has in fact been found that the pump is noisy when it sucks in a mixture of water and air. As shown in Figure 3, the pump hardly ever works with such a mixture of air and water because the transition between the defused state and the primed state is sudden; this transition is represented by a line segment 35 parallel to the ordinate axis P.

In addition, the amount of water introduced is extremely precise and there is therefore no need to add more water than necessary.

For emptying the direction of rotation of the motor is reversed. The pump rotates in the direction of arrow f (figure 2). It is the simultaneous presence of the chimney 30 venting the pump body 16 and vanes 23 turned in the opposite direction to the vanes 21 which makes it possible, during the emptying, to deactivate the pump 15 and therefore little operation. noisy during this emptying. However, at the moment when the cycling is stopped, the emptying has not yet taken place and the projected water falls back into the tank 10, which can submerge the chimney 30 and cause noisy operation at the very start of the emptying phase. . But this feature is not a problem, because if such noise occurs, it lasts only a fraction of a second.
