Abstract

An internal combustion engine has a drive connection for auxiliary units with a reduction gear for a coolant pump (22 '), which is formed by pump wheels (59', 60 ') of a lubricating oil gear pump.

Description

The invention relates to an internal combustion engine of the type according to the preamble of claim 1, in particular according to patent ...... (patent application P 29 22 695). In the internal combustion engine according to the main patent, the lubricating oil gear pump is driven by a power take-off shaft rotating at crankshaft speed via a reduction gear. The larger gear of the reduction gear is arranged on the common shaft of the pumps, which carries the driving pump wheel of the lubricating oil gear pump and the pump impeller of the coolant pump. The reduction gear requires friction, space in the housing of the internal combustion engine and increases the manufacturing effort. For reasons of pump performance, the coolant pump is usually operated at a lower speed than the crankshaft.

The invention has for its object to make space-saving, simple and inexpensive in an internal combustion engine according to the preamble of claim 1, the drive connection for the lubricating oil gear pump and the coolant pump while maintaining a reduction for the coolant pump.

The invention solves this problem by the characterizing features of claim 1. The design according to the invention achieves a very compact drive connection for the lubricating oil gear pump and the coolant pump.

Embodiments and developments of the invention are characterized in claims 2 to 4. Due to the features of claim 2, a pre-assembled pump. Unit formed, which can be easily attached to and detachable from the housing of an internal combustion engine. The features of claim 3 simplify the machining of the connection surfaces on the housing of the internal combustion engine and on the pump housing. Claim 4 uses the space required by the axial space requirement of the seal of the coolant pump for the space-saving arrangement of the suction space of the coolant pump.

The invention is explained below using an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing. The drawing shows a vertical longitudinal section of a lubricating oil gear pump and a coolant pump including their drive connection with a power take-off shaft of an internal combustion engine, not shown.

A pump housing 72 with its mounting surface 73 is fastened to a connection surface 71 of a housing part 6 'of an internal combustion engine (not shown further). The pump housing 72 contains pump wheels 59 'and 60' of a lubricating oil gear pump in a section 74 facing the housing part 6 'and a coolant pump 22' with a pump impeller 58 'in the opposite section. A housing cover 75 forms the end. The driving pump wheel 59 'of the lubricating oil gear pump has a smaller number of teeth than the driven pump wheel 60'. As a result, the pump wheels 59 'and 60' form a reduction gear for the coolant pump 22 '. The driving pump wheel 59 ′ is fastened in a rotationally fixed manner on a shaft 76 mounted in the pump housing 72. The shaft 76 is arranged coaxially to a power take-off shaft 51 'of the internal combustion engine (not shown further) and drive-connected to the power take-off shaft 51' via a plug-in coupling 77.
