This would require larger cross-sections of the arms 1, 2 and the beam 13, which would be highly undesirable due to the limited opening AB in the operations described in connection with FIGS. 8 and 9. • the foam material piece 28 is held together much more loosely between the arms 1, 2 and the carrier 23, and thus can be moved more easily thereon, and the area on which the pocket walls 22, 23 rest against the piece of foam material is proportional large. It is thereby achieved that the piece of foam 28 is carried along by the pocket walls 22, 23 by static friction and thereby slides on the arms 1, 2 and the carrier 23 when the bag (front part 17) is removed from the device together with the piece of foam contained therein . That makes this process easier.

Description

Introducing an elastically bendable, plate-shaped piece of foam into a pocket made of flexible material that is adapted to it through a slot-like opening formed at the edge thereof, the circumference of which is shorter than the circumference of the cross section of the foam piece that is perpendicular to the direction of insertion, particularly if difficulties arise Material is relatively rigid and the circumference of the opening is significantly smaller than that of the cross-section of the foam piece perpendicular to the direction of insertion. This is particularly the case when inserting the closed-cell foam pieces into the pockets of life jackets, d 4 whose foam pieces have a significant bending resistance because they are closed-celled and therefore not very compressible and have to be relatively thick, so that for the given area of the foam pieces this is necessary for the required Buoyancy in the water necessary volume is achieved. The insertion of the foam pieces is also made considerably more difficult by the fact that the surface of foam, in particular closed-cell foam, has a large frictional resistance, it has a very large number of small depressions which are sucked onto an adjacent surface even at a low contact pressure.

In the manufacture of life jackets, two pieces of flexible material are first sewn together to form a larger part of their circumference to form the pocket, each of which receives a piece of foam, the smaller remaining peripheral part then forming a slit-shaped opening through which the foam piece is inserted, whereupon then the remaining peripheral part is sewn together. In a life jacket manufacturing process, the slit-like opening is formed on a straight side of the pocket but is shorter than that side, such that each slit end is spaced from the adjacent end (corner) of that side. The slot-like opening is of course shorter than the dimension of the foam piece assigned to this side, and the difference between the circumference of the slot-like opening (this is twice the slot length) and the circumference of the cross-section on the assigned side of the foam piece is even more significant because of its thickness makes up part of the cross-sectional circumference. This of course complicates the insertion of the foam piece. However, the opening that does not extend to the corners after the insertion of the foam piece can therefore be sewn more easily and quickly, i.e. more efficiently than an opening extending from one corner to the other, because the existing part of the seam is already around the corners of the pocket, in which are the corresponding corners of the foam piece, is led around. To understand the easier and faster sewing of the opening, it should be borne in mind that the piece of foam should fill the bag to the full. In order to bring the slit edges to cover when sewing together, the piece of foam at the adjacent end must be slightly deformed. This is tedious because of the limited volume elasticity of the closed-cell foam, but is made easier if the existing seam is already led around the corners, and thus already runs in part in the direction in which it must be completed to close the opening. The advantage of facilitating the closing of the opening is considerable, but has so far hardly come into play because it was complex, tedious and time-consuming to insert the foam piece through the small opening into the pocket.

Eine auf einer Grundplatte 8 stehende Säule 9 trägt den Halter 4.1 and 2, two arms 1 and 2 are arranged side by side horizontally in the manner of cantilevers. The arm 1 is on a fixed part 3 of a holder 4, and the other arm 2 is on one for changing its distance from the arm 1 on the holder 4 by means of a slide guide 5 slidable part 6 attached. A pneumatic piston-cylinder unit 7 fastened to the holder 4 serves for displacement. A column 9 standing on a base plate 8 carries the holder 4.

The arms 1 and 2 have a circular cross section 11 from their attachment point to approximately the middle of their length and a spoon-like cross section 12 to the free end, the hollow sides of these cross sections 12 facing one another. The arms 1 and 2 run in the part in which their cross section is circular, parallel and then curved so that their mutual distance decreases towards their free ends. Below the plane in which the arms 1 and 2 are arranged, a flat carrier 13 is attached to the part 3. The carrier 13 is in the working position 2 'of the arm 2 shown in dash-dotted lines in the middle under the two arms, it is about as long as this and runs horizontally from its attachment point to about the middle of its length and then curved upwards. In the area of the curvature, its width tapers towards the free end. The curvature of the arms 1 and 2 and the carrier 13 runs approximately according to that of a bending line.

The device can have a plunger 14, indicated by dash-dotted lines in FIG. 1, which, when the arm 2 is in its working position 2 ', is located in the middle between the arms 1 and 2. The plunger 14 can with a feed device, for. B. a (not shown) piston-cylinder unit. Different arms 1 and 2 and plunger 14 can be exchangeable for use with foam pieces of different dimensions and rigidity. An adjustable stop can also be provided, against which the part 6 abuts in the working position of the arm 2. The arms 1 and 2 and the carrier 13 can be coated with a layer of high lubricity in order to facilitate the processes described in connection with FIGS. 8 and 9.

On the life jacket partially shown in Fig. 3, two symmetrical front parts (chest parts) 16 and 17, which are detachably connected by a zipper 18, and a back part 19 which is only visible in the neckline in Fig. 3 can be distinguished, the front parts 16 and 17 connect in the shoulder area 21 to the back part 19. The life jacket essentially consists of two identical pieces of flexible, in particular textile material, sewn together at their edges, of which the piece forming the outside of the vest is designated by 22 in FIG. 3 and 7 to 10, and the piece forming the inside thereof is designated by 23. These pieces form the walls of the pockets, they are connected to one another at their edge by a seam 24 shown in broken lines in FIG. 3. To securely attach the life jacket to the person wearing it, partially shown straps 25, 26 and four straps 27 with eyelets are provided, on which the front parts 16 and 17 are tied to the back part 19 under the arms of the person wearing the life jacket. (The straps 25, 26 and straps 27 are not shown in Fig. 10.) Each of the three parts 16, 17 and 19 forms a pocket in which there is a closed-cell foam piece, e.g. For example, in the front part 17 located on the right in FIG. 3, the foam piece 28 shown in FIG. 4. As a result, a slit-shaped opening is formed between these points, which opening is shorter than the lower width of the foam piece 28 and whose circumference, as explained above, is even shorter than the circumference of the cross section on the lower side of the foam piece 28.

Fig. zeigt dies im Querschnitt. To insert the foam piece 28 through the opening AB into the pocket forming the front part 17 of the life jacket, the device described in connection with FIGS. And 2 is used as follows: The foam piece 28 is placed lengthwise on the arms 1 and 2, with the arm 2 is in its rest position shown in solid form in FIG. 2. Fig. Shows this in cross section. Then the foam piece 28 is pressed down between the arms 1 and 2, Fig. 6, and the arm 2 is pushed into its working position 2 '. As a result, the foam piece 28, as shown in FIG. 7, is bent in a U-shaped cross section and the legs of the U are partially pressed together, the apex of the bend being pressed against the carrier 13. The restoring force of the bent and compressed foam piece 28 exerts bending moments on the arms 1 and 2 'and on the carrier 13, under the effect of which the arms 1, 2' and the carrier 13 are directed straight and parallel. If the arms 1, 2 'and the beam 13 were straight, they would have to be very rigid to withstand these bending moments and to remain parallel. This would require larger cross-sections of the arms 1, 2 and the beam 13, which would be highly undesirable due to the limited opening AB in the operations described in connection with FIGS. 8 and 9. Now the pocket of the life jacket forming the front part 17 is pushed with the opening A - B forward onto the piece of foam 28 clamped between the arms 1, 2 'and the carrier 13 until it is completely in the pocket, FIG. 8 Arm 2 'pushed as far as possible from arm 1, Fig. 9. Then the front part 17 with the foam piece 28 contained therein can be pulled off the arms 1, 2 and the carrier 13. This process can be supported by the plunger 14 (Fig. 2). As a rule, the inner piece 23 is network-like. By the front part 17 in the position in which this piece 23 is up, on the between the arms 1, 2 'and the Carrier 13 compressed foam piece 28 is pushed, the foam piece 28 is visible through the mesh of the piece 23 and it can be directed in the process of peeling.

In the state shown in Fig. 8, the foam piece 28 is firmly pressed between the arms 1, 2 'and the carrier 13, practically immovable thereon, and the area against which the pocket walls 22, 23 abut the foam piece 28 is relatively small. This ensures that the foam piece 28 is held stationary and the pocket (front part 17) slides as well as possible on the foam piece 28. This makes it easier to pull the bag over the piece of foam.

In contrast, in the state shown in FIG. 1, the foam material piece 28 is held together much more loosely between the arms 1, 2 and the carrier 23, and thus can be moved more easily thereon, and the area on which the pocket walls 22, 23 rest against the piece of foam material is proportional large.

Finally, the seam 24 between A and B is completed. In the other pockets, which form the other front part 16 and the back part 19, foam pieces adapted to them are introduced in a corresponding manner and are held in place by completing the seam 24 at the corresponding points in the life jacket. However, the method and the device are not limited to this application and use related to life jackets, because the problem does not arise only with these.
