Abstract

In order to be able to compost fibre material, such as straw, in the most expedient manner, this can take place, according to the invention, in a process and an installation which regulates itself on the basis of the bacterial activity. This latter is dependent on the straw having a degree of moistness of approx. 80%, corresponding to approx. 4-5.5 times the weight of the straw, resulting in a temperature maximum being achieved. This can come about by the saturation taking place by the straw 1 being discharged above a zone of slurry drops 6 and thereby being rained down into a collecting vat 2, from which it is transported for airing. Since complicated and expensive automation is not required for regulating the process, the latter can be made self- regulating. This is due to the fact that there is a close connection between the temperature and the liquid content in the moistened mass 24 and that a rapid and hygienic composting can consequently take place. <IMAGE>
