Abstract

A bandage material for forming an orthopaedic dressing on the spot comprises a foldable, large-mesh carrier material which consists of a knitted fabric made of a very strong, high-modulus yarn having a low uptake of moisture. The carrier material possesses openings of relatively large transverse dimensions and is coated with a polymer composition which comprises cold water- hardening polyurethane prepolymer which comprises the reaction product of a polyalkylene ether diol, a polyalkylene ether triol and a diisocyanate. The modified diisocyanate is a mixture of 4,4'-methyldiphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and MDI which has been modified with carbodiimide. The reaction proceeds as follows: <IMAGE> where R is <IMAGE>
