Abstract

The separator is used for separating a solid fraction from a liquid fraction in an emulsion, for example liquid manure, and comprises two endless screws 1, 2 which are of equal length but opposite pitch and which are in engagement with each other and rotate in opposite directions with identical rates of revolution. The endless screws 1, 2 are mounted in a shared housing 9 which is manufactured from perforated sheet. The separator has an intake opening 10 and a discharge opening 11. The housing 9 is extended for a distance (x) beyond the ends 12 of the endless screws 1, 2. The housing 9 can be displaced in relation to the endless screws 1, 2 in the longitudinal direction of the endless screws or, conversely, the endless screws 1, 2 can be displaced in relation to the housing 9, with it being possible for the length (X) of the protruding part of the housing 9 to vary. This displacement can take place with the aid of one or more tightening or tensioning devices 14. When the separator begins to be used, the discharge opening 11 is closed with a detachable or opening damper 13 until a plug 22 of material from the solid fraction has formed in the protruding length (X) of the housing 9, after which the damper 13 is removed. The length (X) of the plug 22 determines the dry matter content in the solid fraction. The greater the length (X) is, the greater is the resistance and the greater is the dry matter content. The separator according to the invention has a high throughput rate or capacity. The dry matter content in the solid fraction can be regulated and can amount to as much as 40%. The liquid fraction is without solid constituents and can therefore be applied using an ordinary watering machine. <IMAGE>
