Abstract

A protective mat 1 for protection against erosion and/or washing away, comprising a number of parallel tubular sleeves 2 which contain a filling material 4 and are mutually connected by cross-binding tapes 3 at right angles to the tubular sleeves and passing around these. As filling material 4 granular material having an average density of at least 1.6 kg/dm < 3 > is used, the tubular sleeves 2 having a fill factor of essentially 75%. By using relatively heavy filling material, which can be packed relatively easily, a mat is obtained which is highly flexible and which will therefore bear closely against even a domed ground surface. The danger of sub- surface erosion is thereby substantially reduced. <IMAGE>
