In der Beschreibung des Haupt-Patents war nur .die Einleitung der Kohlensäure durch ein auf dem Boden des Absetzgefäfses liegendes Rohr vorgesehen. In vielen Fällen,' namentlich da, wo die Absetzbassins weit von den Fabriken und Dampfkesseln entfernt sind, ist es schwierig, die Kohlensäure auf diese Weise einzuleiten. Alsdann soll das mit Aetzkalk behandelte Abgangswasser auf ein Gradirwerk, wie es bei Salinen üblich ist, oder über ein Haufwerk von Coks oder anderen porösen Körpern, durch welche die atmosphärische Luft streicht, gepumpt werden; ebenso kann man die Flüssigkeit auch über eine schwach geneigte Fläche rieseln lassen, auf die eventuell poröse organische oder anorganische Stoffe geworfen werden. Auf diese Weise findet der im ersten Theil des Processes gelöste Aetzkalk Gelegenheit, sich mit der Kohlensäure der Luft zu verbinden.
