Mit besonderem Vorteil wird als Grundseife eine nach den Vorschriften zur Herstellung von sapo medicinalis bereitete Seife verwendet. Es können aber auch neutrale Kaliseifen (Schmierseifen), ferner kalt oder mittelwarm gerührte Leimseifen mit Zusätzen von Glycerin, Glykol, Zucker, Alkohol usw., sogenannte Transparentseifen, zur Verwendung gelangen. In diesem Fall können die Lösungen der Hormone den Seifen bei ihrer Herstellung, vorteilhaft knapp vor dem Erstarren, zugesetzt werden. Für Rasierseifen werden in üblicher Weise überfettete Grundseifen verwendet.
