Die zu dengelnde Sense oder Sichel wird von Hand gehalten und an der Halterung entlang geführt, während die Hammerschläge auf den Schlagl>olzen einwirken. Der Hammerschlag wird also nicht unmittelbar auf die Sense geführt, sondern der hammerartig ausgebildete untere Teil des Schlagbolzens trifft die Sensenschneide, so daß lediglich das Augenmerk auf die Führung der Sense gerichtet zu werden braucht, um eine einwandfreie Dengelung zu erreichen.
