Description
Sealing means for caulking pipe connections and the like based on aluminum wool For sealing pipelines, channels, manhole linings, Tubbing, etc. has been used to the greatest extent so far, with lead wool the lead wool for caulking the pipe connections, sleeves, flange seals, etc. served. In place of lead there have been various other substances lately, see above z. B. aluminum wool or sintered iron, tried, but the insufficient plastic Have deformability.
It has now been found that a practically useful sealant can be produced on the basis of aluminum wool if the aluminum wool is coated with a plastically deformable material, specifically in the form of an emulsion. This coating, which must be applied in sufficient thickness and is therefore made from an emulsion, gives the aluminum wool the properties of lead wool; it can be plastically deformed under mechanical action and then retains the state assumed by the deformation, which it usually loses again after a more or less short time without the above-mentioned coating. As a suitable emulsion, for. B. proved to be a stable bitumen emulsion, which by adding small amounts of representative, d. H. mineral fillers with a thickening effect are given greater resistance both in mechanical and, in particular, in thermal relation. The following can be used as thickening agents: kieselguhr, talc, asbestos flour, wood flour, slag wool flour, cellulose fiber flour, paper dust and the like.
Although it has already been proposed for packaging purposes, metal foils to cover with synthetic resins and to harden the synthetic resin by means of a heat treatment. However, any existing plastic properties of the Synthetic resins are completely lost, so that caulking of seals with such Metal foils is not possible, even if such foils are made of a wool-like one Product is manufactured.
Likewise, it has already been proposed to use solutions or aluminum wool Treat melts of bitumen or paraffin, thereby making one for caulking appropriate 'mass to get. However, wool treated in this way has proven itself to be the case for the aforementioned Purpose not proven because those applied in a dissolved or melted state organic substances do not agglomerate and stick together the individual metal fibers allow.
B e i s p i e 1 e i. B. Kieselgur, gestellt.Instead of or together with the bitumen emulsions, emulsions of other plastically deformable substances, e.g. B. of polymerization plastics can be used. In any case, it is important that the emulsion on the aluminum wool provides a layer of plastically deformable material that no longer loosens when the wool is caulked or compressed and enables a liquid-tight seal. Eg p ie 1 e i. In the loosened state, aluminum wool is dipped several times into a stable, approximately 50% bitumen emulsion, made with a water-insoluble emulsifier, where. in which the coating produced by dipping has to dry out every time. The bitumen emulsion is expediently made by adding small amounts of mineral additives, e.g. B. diatomaceous earth.
Der Kunststoffgehalt dieser Emulsionen liegt ebenfalls bei etwa 50'10.Instead of bitumen emulsions, emulsions can of course also be used other plastically deformable materials are used, such as. B. emulsions of Polymerization plastics, provided they have sufficient tensile strength. The plastic content of these emulsions is also around 50'10.
Aluminum wool is loosened several times with a Mixed emulsion treated, the coating produced by the treatment each time has to dry up before a new impregnation. The emulsion is made from 2 Parts by weight of a stable bitumen emulsion, i part by weight of an emulsion Polyvinyl chloride, o, i part by weight of kieselguhr.
