Abstract

A surface mounted fire and smoke seal comprises a plastics (e.g. PVC) mounting strip which is turned through a right angle along one of its sides to define an upstanding wall 2. A first relatively flexible plastics strip 3 extends downwardly from the upper margin of the wall and is inclined towards the mounting strip at an angle approximating to 45{ to the wall. A second relatively flexible plastics strip 4 is attached to the floor 1 of the mounting strip and is inclined upwardly therefrom at an angle approximating to 45{ thereto. The two flexible strips 3,4 lie in substantially the same plane with a spacing between their free edges or with their free edges in contact. The strip can be fastened to the door jamb so that the door closes against the two flexible strips. A strip of intumescent material can be bonded to the floor of the mounting strip between the second flexible strip 4 and the side edge of the mounting strip remote from the wall 2.

Claims

1. A surface mounted seal comprising a plastics fastening strip (1) having an upstanding wall (2) formed thereon, from the upper edge of which projects a plastics strip (3) of flexible plastics material; the flexible strip extends downwards to the fastening strip and has an angle to the wall of between 35º and 60º, and a second flexible strip (4) extends upwards from the surface of the fastening strip towards the first flexible strip, forming together with that strip the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle, the other sides of which are given by the upstanding wall and the length of the fastening strip arranged between the flexible strip and the wall, the seal is characterized in that the fastening strip (1) is extended and extends beyond the point at which the second flexible strip (4) reaches the surface of the fastening strip, and in that a strip of foamed material (5) is attached to the surface of the fastening strip between the side edge of the fastening strip which is remote from the wall (2) and the second flexible strip (4).

2. A seal according to claim 1, wherein the free edges of the two flexible strips (1, 4) are spaced apart.

3. A seal according to claim 1, wherein the free edges of the two flexible strips (1, 4) are in contact with each other.

4. A seal according to one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the flexible strips (1, 4) have angles of approximately 45º to the wall (2) or the fastening strip (1).
