Abstract

Intrinsic moisture in the fiber is exploited in rapid microwave heating to the desired fixing temperature. Treatment at this temperature is maintained for a specific interval. Preferred features: Maximal temperature is attained in the interior of the windings, in accordance with the moisture distribution. Temperature distribution is evened-out in an unheated, thermally insulated chamber. Some heat energy may be supplied during treatment. Microwave heating takes place in a special chamber. Pretreatment with supply of heat, moisture and/or softening agents, may precede the main heat treatment. Treatments are continuous. Duration of thermal treatment is controlled by varying the transport speed. Microwave power is also controlled during heating and thermal treatment, in the respective treatment chamber.
