Abstract

A power cylinder has a body (11) which houses a piston (12) which has a piston rod (121). The piston can be held in any required position by a clamping device installed in the cylinder head (112). The clamping device consists of a chamber (17) which houses a clamping cone (172). This clamping cone is pressed downwards by a stack of disc springs (17') onto a clamping bush (171) which grips the piston rod (121). The clamp is released by admitting the pressure medium to the chamber (17) so that the force of the disc springs is overcome and the clamping cone (172) is pushed upwards clear of the clamping bush (171).
