Das gibt zwar eine verhältnismäßig sichere Befestigung, hat aber den Nachteil, daß die Niete auf der Rückseite des Knopfes oder der Schnalle, gerade dort, wo dieser Gegenstand mit dem oft zarten Gewebe eines Kleidungsstückes in Berührung kommt, durch Scheuern und Kratzen Beschädigungen verursacht. Auch zerbricht häufig der Knopf o. dgl. infolge des erforderlichen Hämmerns der Niete schon bei der Herstellung, wodurch ein verhältnismäßig großer Abfall entsteht. Ferner stellt sich diese Art der Befestigung teuer, da für das Löten jeder Nietdraht an der Metallauflage mittels einer Rahmenvorrichtung gehalten werden muß, um ihn am Umfallen zu verhindern. Das Umbördeln der Ösen, für welche sogenannte Oeillets Verwendung finden können, erfolgt in einfacher Weise mittels einer Oeilletiermaschine durch einen leichten Schlag. Die Gefahr des Zerbrechens der Kunsthornmasse ist völlig beseitigt; auch entstehen abweichend von der erwähnten Nietbefestigung keine hervorstehenden Teile, durch die eine Zerstörung des Kleiderstoffes eintreten könnte. Die Metallauflage sitzt selbst mit einer einzigen Öse ganz fest, während man bei der Nietbefestigung mindestens eine doppelte Nietung vornehmen mußte.
