Außerdem müssen die für solche Lager verwendeten Metalle genügend hohen Schmelzpunkt aufweisen, um die bei der Herstellung der Vakuumgefäße zwecks Entgasung erforderliche starke Erhitzung (mindestens auf Rotglut) zu ermöglichen. Die in der Technik bekannten Lagermetalle für öl- oder fettlose Lager sind deshalb nicht verwendbar, weil sie meist einen Zusatz von Weißmetall, das einen zu niedrigen Schmelzpunkt hat, aufweisen.
