Description
Process -for the production of water-soluble, in acidic and alkaline Solution of soluble products from wool fatty acids It has been found that one too valuable Water-soluble products made from wool fatty acids can be obtained if one uses the latter with sulfonating agents such as monohydrate, chlorosulfonic acid, etc., with addition treated by phenol.
The semi-solid products thus obtained are mainly distinguished characterized in that they are not only in alkaline or neutral solution, but also are easily soluble in dilute mineral acids.
These water-soluble fatty acids and their salts are said to be used in dyeing and leather manufacture are used.
So far, no process has become known to produce products with these to show the valuable properties of wool fatty acids.
It is known to have individual components of '' full fat on its own to treat a little sulfuric acid and from it after complete neutralization with water to produce long-lasting emulsions (cf. American patent specification i 543 i57). In contrast, according to the present process, the starting materials are the very much cheaper, available as a waste product in the production of \ Teutralwollfett Wool fatty acids are used and with significantly larger amounts of the sulfonating Means treated as it is according to the known method and also during manufacture the common Turkish red oil is the case. Also, this sulfonation is taking Addition of phenol is carried out, which significantly increases acid resistance of the end products compared to the previously known products, their starting materials Wool fat or components of it are conditional. Apparently this occurs the phenol in whole or in part in reaction with portions of the mixture which the represent technical wool fatty acids. As components to be considered for this Above all, the unsaturated fatty acids should be mentioned and maybe also those higher alcohols contained in the aforementioned mixture, with the assistance of the dehydrating sulfuric acid evidently form phenol ether-like compounds. The properties of the end products, in particular the degree of solubility and acid resistance, are, among other things, dependent on the amount of phenol used, i.e. which ones must be varied depending on the purpose. Good acid-resistant products will be obtained, for example, if one part of phenol per 3 parts of wool fatty acids used. Higher phenol additions only improve the properties to a small extent, while but with decreasing phenol content, the resistance to drinking of the solutions decreases sharply. Thus, with r part phenol to 5 parts wool fatty acid, products are formed Still soluble in warm water, but only to some extent against weak acids are persistent. In contrast to these previously known products stand out the new compounds thanks to their particularly clear solubility even in acidic water and by low sensitivity to hardness builders.
Um den Körper ganz säurefrei zu erhalten, wird er ein oder mehrere Male in ungefähr der sechsfachen Gewichtsmenge Wasser heiß gelöst und mit Kochsalz ausgesalzen, wobei er sich als Öl über der Salzlösung abscheidet.EXAMPLE 9 parts by weight of lanolin fatty acid of commerce are melted together with 3 parts by weight of phenol under heating and then the cooled to about 2O ° to 30 mass sulfonated by gradual addition of 1 6 parts by weight of sulfuric acid. The mixture is left to stand for 12 to aq. Hours and the sulfonation mixture is poured into 9 parts by weight of ice with thorough stirring. At a low temperature, the fatty crude product can easily be separated from the excess aqueous acid by squeezing and pouring off. Then it is kneaded several times with saline solution and freed the mass from the bulk of the remaining sulfuric acid. To keep the body completely acid-free, it is dissolved once or several times in about six times the amount by weight of hot water and salted out with table salt, whereby it separates as an oil over the salt solution.
At normal temperature, the product obtained in this way has a fat-like, semi-solid mass, which becomes oily even at a slightly elevated temperature, easily Dissolves in water with lacquer nut acid reaction, in dilute solution on the addition of mineral acid does not fail even in the heat, as alkali soap has great emulsifying power for in itself insoluble in water possesses and from its aqueous, alkaline or acidic solution can easily be salted out.
