Abstract
DNA sequence (I), encoding a synthetic spider silk protein (II), comprising modules, each comprising a group of sequentially arranged oligonucleotides (ON), each ON encoding a repeating unit of a spidroin protein (III), is new. DNA sequence (I), encoding a synthetic spider silk protein (II), comprising modules, each comprising a group of sequentially arranged oligonucleotides (ON), each ON encoding a repeating unit of a spidroin protein (III). (II) has at least 84, best 94,% homology with (III), especially the spidroin-1 protein of Nephila clavipes. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) recombinant nucleic acid (Ia) comprising (I) and a ubiquitously active promoter; (b) vector containing (Ia); (c) microorganisms containing (Ia) or the vector of (b); (d) recombinant (II); (e) preparation of a plant, or plant cell, that produces (II); (f) transgenic plant cell containing (Ia) or the vector of (b), or produced by method (e); (g) transgenic plants containing the cells of (Ia), also their parts, harvested products or replicative material; (h) method for producing plant-derived or otherwise recombinant (II); and (i) plant-derived (II) produced by method (h).
