Description
Process for obtaining vitamin-rich extracts from asparagus In investigations about the extraction of ferments and vitamins from vegetables it turned out that asparagus and asparagus waste only provide vitamin extracts with excellent effects, - If the procedure described below is used.
Funk, Vitamine, 3. Auflage 1:19241, S. 233). The extraction of vitamins from asparagus is known per se (cf. Funk, Vitamine, 3rd edition 1: 19241, p. 233).
Extracts produced according to the present process show in extremely small amounts, even in the value of 0.010 g of nitrogen, an acceleration and increase in yeast fermentations, in larger amounts of course also a qualitative and quantitative improvement in the yeast yields.
The production of good, rich, effective extracts is also disturbed by lower organisms, bacteria, yeasts, schirnmelpilie occurring in asparagus, ' especially Bacterium termo.
Example The asparagus or the waste (peel) will be. first hosed down cold, crushed and extracted cold with water for 2 hours. Then with the addition of tiny amounts of chloroform - about o, i v. H. - as an antiseptic, which is later volatilized again during evaporation - at 20 ° C rising to 62 ° C - extracted for 2 hours, whereby the addition of alkali ensures that the pH of the liquid is 5 ; then it is cooled quickly, cold pressed, filtered and evaporated to the thickest consistency in vacuo or under reduced pressure at temperatures not above 62 ° C.
