Abstract

The safety system for a double-walled fuel pipe contains a viewing window in the outer pipe. The intermediate space between the inner and outer fuel pipes is hermetically sealed. When a leak occurs in the pressure pipe the intermediate space between the inner and outer pipes is filled rapidly with fuel which reacts with a catalyst applied to the viewing window. The colour of the window is changed, thus indicating the presence of the leak. USE/ADVANTAGE - For use in fuel delivery system, e.g. for diesel fuel. Safety system enables leaks in pressure pipe to be detected immediately. Line need not be changed immediately on detection of leak since outer safety pipe forms closed unit.
