Abstract

It is known that in the combustion of fossil energy sources, in addition to NO2 and NO, N2O is also formed. This N2O is undesirable in principle since it leads to an enrichment in the stratosphere and the ozone layer is affected. The know processes for decreasing the NOx in the flue gas are primarily orientated to separating out NO, since this NO constitutes over 90% of the NOx. It is also known that, for example, in the selective catalytic reduction of NO using NH3, not only N2 and H2O but also N2O is formed, as a result of which the N2O base content in flue gases is increased. It has now been found that the N2O concentrations of 10-50 ppm in the flue gas, independently of the concentration, can be reduced according to the invention to below 2 ppm by using a scrubbing liquid which contains iron chelate, sodium hydroxide solution, sodium sulphite and sodium sulphate and by addition of reducing agents and/or masking agents, for example preferably dithionite and/or tartaric acid, for maintaining ironII or for reducing ironIII to ironII selectively and/or simultaneously separates out SO2, NOx, NO2, HCl, HF and other, preferably acidic pollutants. The pH of the scrubbing liquid is adjusted to below pH 8, preferably - depending on the necessary efficiency - between 6 and 7.5.

Description

The main application P 35 18 974.6 describes a washing solution for the simultaneous washing of SO 2 and NO x in flue gases behind power plants and other fossil combustion plants.

It is known that when fossil fuels are burned, N 2 O is formed in addition to NO 2 and NO. This N 2 O is fundamentally undesirable because it accumulates in the stratosphere and affects the ozone belt.

The N 2 O concentrations in untreated flue gases are between 10 and 50 ppm depending on the type of furnace.

Processes for the reduction of NO x in flue gas primarily focus on the separation of NO, since this NO is involved in the NO x with over 90%.

It is also known that e.g. B. not only N 2 and H 2 O, but also N 2 O is formed in the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH 3 , whereby the basic N 2 O content in flue gases is increased.

In contrast, it was found that when using a washing liquid according to patent application P 35 18 974.6, the N 2 O concentration of the flue gas is reduced as a result of the simultaneous chemical-physical binding of the N 2 O in addition to NO in the washing liquid.

By using the washing liquid according to the invention, the N 2 O concentrations of 10-50 ppm in the flue gas are reduced to less than 2 ppm regardless of the concentration, without the SO 2 , NO and NO 2 separation being impaired.
