Üblicherweise erfolgt der Antrieb des rotierenden Wärmetauschers über einen Motor, welcher außerhalb des Wärmetauschers angebracht ist. Die Kraftübertragung vom Motor zum Wärmetauscher erfolgt dabei über einen Keilriemen.
Dabei besteht das Problem, daß der Keilriemen in bestimmten Zeitabständen nachgespannt werden muß, um ein Rutschen und damit Energieverlust zu verhindern. Weiterhin geht durch die Anordnung des Motors neben dem Wärmetauscher sehr viel Platz verloren.
