Häufig passiert es, daß nach mehreren Betriebsjahren das Leistungsschild verlorengeht oder nicht mehr lesbar ist, wie es besonders bei Traktionsmotoren in der Regel der Fall ist. Dabei ist es vorteilhaft, wenn das Datensystem mit ihrer Elektronik schwingungs- und wärmegedämmt an der Maschine angebracht ist, beispielsweise in einem Hauptklemmenkasten oder in einem gesonderten Hilfsklemmenkasten. Die Elektronik des Datensystems besteht aus einem oder mehreren Signalprozessoren, einem oder mehreren Speicherelementen, vorzugsweise einer -Pufferbatterie, welche die Spannungsausfälle oder einen Betrieb mit zu geringer Spannungsversorgung überbrückt sowie einer Schnittstelle zum Auslesen und/oder Anzeigen der gespeicherten Daten.
