Claims

1. Toothbrush, comprising:
a handle;
a head extending from the handle; and
a plurality of bristle tufts attached to the head, two of the tufts each being at an acute angle relative to an imaginary line tangent to or co-planar with a surface of the head through which the two tufts are attached to the head, the two tufts having a different length from one another, the two tufts being angled in substantially opposite directions, one of the tufts being angled toward the handle and the other of the tufts being angled away from the handle,
the toothbrush further comprising a third tuft, the third tuft being attached to the head at a location such that no other tuft is attached to the head at a location farther from the handle than the location where the third tuft is attached to the head, and the third tuft being angled from the imaginary line at between about 69 to about 81 degrees.

2. A toothbrush according to claim 1, wherein the difference in length between the two tufts is about 2.286 mm (0.090 inches).

3. The toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the third tuft is angled at about 75 degrees from the imaginary line.

4. The toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the cross-sectional area of the third tuft is at least four times larger than the cross-sectional area of any other tuft attached to the head.

5. A toothbrush according to claim 1, wherein no other tuft is attached to the head at a location as far from the handle as the location where the third tuft is attached to the head.

6. The toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the third tuft is inclined away from the handle toward a general direction in which the head extends from the handle.

7. The toothbrush of claim 1, wherein one or more of the bristles have a characteristic feature that differs from the other bristles, the characteristic feature being selected from the group consisting of length, diameter, cross-sectional area, cross-sectional shape, color, material, and combinations thereof.

8. A toothbrush according to claim 1, wherein the two tufts are angled in substantially the same direction.

9. The toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the two tufts are angled between about 69 to about 81 degrees from the imaginary line.

10. A toothbrush according to claim 9, wherein the two tufts are angled at about 75 degrees from the imaginary line.
