The invention relates to a packaging for cuboid-shaped packaging items, in particular books, consisting of strip-shaped corrugated cardboard sections which form flaps on four sides from a central base part to enclose the packaging items. Packaging of this type is known, for example, from DE-PS 27 19 288. This packaging has an elongated cardboard strip to enclose the packaging items as outer flaps intended to overlap and cardboard sections in the middle area attached to the longitudinal edges of the cardboard strip and pivotable about bending lines running inwardly parallel to the edge as inner flaps to wrap around the packaging items, whereby the two inner flaps are initially connected to one another via an easily tearable perforation, thus together taking up the width of the elongated cardboard strip intended to form the outer flaps.

In the known packaging, the cardboard strip and the inner flaps attached to it are made of corrugated cardboard, which has the advantage that its use allows any number of folding lines to be specified in the flaps that are to be folded over the packaging goods. To this end, the elongated cardboard strip that encompasses the two outer flaps and the corrugated cardboard section for the inner flaps only have to be arranged at right angles to each other in relation to the alignment of the corrugations. The inner and outer flaps made of corrugated cardboard can be folded parallel to the corrugations at any point, so that a thin or thick book to be packaged can be packaged in this way just as quickly and easily. The inner flaps, which are hinged inwards in relation to the long edges of the elongated cardboard strip intended to form the outer flaps, form a crumple zone on each of the narrow sides to protect the packaged goods. The disadvantage of the known packaging is that the bottom part is made of only one layer of cardboard and the packaged goods are therefore most likely to be damaged by sharp objects during transport from this side. Another disadvantage is that the inner flaps, which have only a limited length due to the described manufacturing process, are too short for thick packaged goods to achieve double-layer cardboard protection everywhere on the top side together with the outer flaps.

A significant disadvantage, however, is that the known packaging has to be produced using various punching cuts and therefore requires the production of very expensive punching tools beforehand. The aim of the present invention was therefore to create packaging that does not have the disadvantages described, i.e. offers more comprehensive protection for the packaged goods and, above all, can be produced more cost-effectively.

To solve the problem, the packaging has the features according to claim 1. In this packaging with corrugated cardboard sections laid crosswise on top of each other, each of the cardboard sections can be produced on a slotting machine, i.e. cut out of large cardboard strips using circular knives in a continuous process. Since work does not have to be carried out in cycles as with punching and no special tools have to be produced, the production costs can be reduced by up to 40%, which is a very decisive advantage. Further details and advantages of the packaging according to the invention can be found in the following description and the drawings, in which one embodiment of the packaging is shown purely as an example.

The packaging shown in Fig.1 and Fig.2 consists of an elongated cardboard section 1 made of corrugated cardboard and another cardboard section 2 placed crosswise on top of it in the middle, on the middle area or bottom part 3 of which the packaging item, such as a book, is placed. At the distance between the opposite longitudinal edges 4 and 5 of the cardboard section 1, the cardboard section 2 is folded back by 180 ° thanks to two pre-grooved bending lines 6 lying close to one another, as can be seen from Fig. 3, and glued together from the fold line to another bending line 7 running parallel inwards. In addition, this area of the cardboard section 2 lying between the bending lines 6 and 7 is also connected to the cardboard section 1 located underneath, preferably by gluing. Both gluings can also be replaced by stapling. This inwardly set-back area forms a crumple zone. On both sides, the cardboard section 2 from the two bending lines 7 to the free ends forms the inner flaps 7 and 8 for folding over the packaged goods. Of the cardboard section 1, the two areas to the right and left of cardboard section 2 form the outer flaps 10 and 11, which are finally folded over the packaged goods. Furthermore, a strip-shaped self-adhesive layer 12 for closing the packaging is applied to the flap 11, opposite one another, which can be activated by removing a protective cover and can be produced with the same machine due to the edge-parallel course.

Packaging for cuboid-shaped packaging goods, in particular books, consisting of strip-shaped corrugated cardboard sections which form flaps on four sides extending from a central base part to enclose the packaging goods, characterized in that two strip-shaped corrugated cardboard sections (1, 2) are placed crosswise on top of one another to form a double-layered base part (3) and one cardboard section (2) is firmly connected to the other cardboard section (1) at the opposite longitudinal edges (4, 5) of the other cardboard section (1) by a narrow cardboard zone each delimited by a bending line (6) running flush with the respective longitudinal edge (4, 5) and a bending line (7) running inwards parallel thereto, the cardboard areas adjoining the bending lines (6) running inwards parallel to the edge have inner flaps (8, 9) intended for folding over the packaging goods and the connecting zones adjoining the opposite connecting zones on both sides Cardboard areas of the other cardboard section (1) form the outer flaps (10,11). 2.
