Description

The invention relates to a propolis preparation which is particularly suitable for the production of pads, bandages and compress inserts for therapeutic treatments.

Propolis (bee glue) is known in scientific research as a natural therapeutic agent for numerous different applications. So far, it is known that propolis has, among other things, a strong antibiotic, antiviral and antimycotic effect, that it has anesthetic (pain-numbing) properties, that it can counteract inflammation, that it has a healing or at least soothing effect on numerous skin diseases - to name just a few examples (cf. Arne Lund "Naturally heal with honey", 1997, p. 34 ff., Verlag W. Ludwig, Munich).

The known propolis preparations are either solutions containing propolis extract dissolved in alcohol, or tablets and capsules containing powdered or granulated propolis, or ointment preparations with an admixture of alcoholic propolis extract, propolis powder or propolis granules. Since propolis, as a natural product of bees, can only be obtained in relatively small quantities, it is relatively expensive and is usually only added to the known preparations in small quantities. This applies above all to ointments and tinctures for external use. In this therapeutic area, propolis is therefore practically only available in a very diluted form. In addition, due to the strong dilution, propolis is always used in combination with relatively large amounts of solvents or ointment bases, which are not always well tolerated by patients.

The present invention is therefore based on the requirement to provide a propolis preparation that has a very high

content of propolis and is inexpensive to produce and use

One solution to this problem consists in providing a propolis preparation of the type mentioned above, which is characterized in that it contains as basic components propolis, at least one peloid and beeswax and has a kneadable and/or spreadable consistency at room temperature.

This propolis preparation has the following benefits.

(1) The preparation is in the form of a modeling clay at room temperature and can be kneaded as such, without any additional auxiliary substances, in particular carrier substances, into disc or plate-shaped pads. These pads convey the healing effects of propolis known in naturopathy directly to the relevant parts of the body and thus ensure that these healing effects are developed to the maximum. The modeling clay itself also has the property of storing heat and the pads made from it can therefore be used for combined propolis heat therapy. After use, the pad can be stored without any problem and, if required, can be kneaded into the desired shape and applied again. This repeated application can be carried out as often as desired over several years without any loss of effectiveness, so that the relatively valuable and therefore expensive propolis contained in the modeling clay is used very efficiently. The associated cost advantages are obvious.

(2) The kneaded plates or discs can be used as inserts for known pads or compresses and thus give them the additional healing effect of propolis.

(3) If necessary, the modeling clay can be liquefied to a greater or lesser extent by heating or warming it and used to coat or soak inserts for known pads, bandages or compresses. In this case too, the clay used can be reused many times, namely in the form of the coated or soaked insert, which is simply stored until it is needed again.

(4) The propolis preparation consists exclusively of natural substances, which are generally recognised in the state of the art as being immunologically non-irritating and, consequently, do not cause any undesirable side effects.

(5) It has an unobtrusive and usually pleasant smell

(6) It has such a strong internal cohesion that it does not smear and therefore can be worn directly under normal clothing without any problems.

Peat and/or moor mud and/or moor mud are preferably used as peloid(s). This embodiment of the invention has the advantage that it combines the therapeutically significant effects of propolis and moor in a particularly simple manner and intensifies them in this combination, and that it enables the application of these two natural healing substances directly to practically any part of the body. In comparison to the known moor packs, this propolis preparation according to the invention enables dry, warm application, the freedom of movement of the person concerned is not impaired, and the pack can be worn for as long as desired without the effect diminishing. In general, the effect of propolis and moor in the preparation according to the invention is considerably more concentrated than in the therapeutic preparations of moor or propolis known in the prior art.

Healing clay and/or healing mud can also be used as peloids, either exclusively or in addition. The exclusive use of healing clay and/or healing mud is preferred in cases where cold compresses, cold bandages or cold compresses are required.

Propolis and beeswax are preferably present in the preparation in a weight ratio of 10:1 to 10:5 and the amount of peloid(s) should be about 50% by weight of the total amount of propolis and beeswax.

The propolis preparation according to the invention preferably contains as a further basic ingredient Vaseline and/or paraffin and/or one or more

Vegetable oils to give it a particularly smooth consistency.

In order to further support and/or enhance the therapeutic effect of the propolis preparation, the teaching according to the invention provides for the propolis preparation to be provided with additives of flower pollen and/or herbs and/or essential oils and/or other aromatic substances. Among the oils and herbs, those with medicinal properties, such as tea tree oil or camomile flowers, are preferred. With the help of these additives, the smell of the propolis preparation according to the invention can also be varied.

However, if a higher degree of purification of the raw propolis is desired, it is preferably prepared as follows before further processing according to the invention.

Raw propolis is dissolved in 70-96% alcohol, preferably ethanol. This solution is filtered and the filtrate is concentrated by evaporation until the alcohol is practically completely removed. The concentrated propolis obtained in this way is particularly free of impurities and wax residues.

Example 1: Processing of preparation variant (I) into a modeling clay and production of discs or plates for use as toppings

Of the ingredients of the base mass according to preparation variant (I), propolis, beeswax and Vaseline (and/or vegetable oil(s)) are first heated over steam until liquefied and mixed to form a homogeneous mixture. The peat mash or mud is then worked into this mixture and distributed as evenly as possible.

The additives according to preparation variant (I), namely flower pollen and/or essential oils and/or (medicinal) herbs, are stirred or kneaded in at the end. The finished preparation is a mass that is easy to knead and is relatively firm at room temperature and relatively soft at body temperature.

Discs or plates of any size, for example with a diameter of around 8 cm, are formed by hand from the malleable mass. If required, these discs or plates can be sprinkled on one or both of their sides with silicon and/or healing clay and/or finely ground millet husks and/or clay - all substances rich in silicon - which gives them an additional disinfecting effect and ensures that they do not stick to the skin or another surface, even if they are applied for a longer period of time.

In order to completely prevent the discs or panels from sticking to the substrate, the discs or panels can be covered with thin textile fabric instead of such a covering, whereby this preferably involves exclusively natural and largely untreated materials such as cotton, linen, hemp, silk, wool, etc.

Example 2: Processing of preparation variant (II) into a spreadable or pourable mass for impregnating carrier materials for use as an insert in dressings or compresses.

The ingredients of the base mass according to preparation variant (II), namely propolis, beeswax and Vaseline (and/or the vegetable oil(s)) are heated over steam until they liquefy and mixed together to form a homogeneous mixture. The healing mud is then incorporated into this mixture and distributed as evenly as possible. The additives according to preparation variant (II), namely flower pollen and/or essential oils and/or (medicinal) herbs, are finally stirred or kneaded in. The finished preparation is a mass that is easy to knead and is relatively firm at room temperature and relatively soft at body temperature.

This kneadable mass is used as described in Example 1.

Example 3: Processing of preparation variant (III) into a spreadable or pourable mass for impregnating carrier materials for use as an insert in dressings or compresses.

From the ingredients of the base mixture according to preparation variant (III), propolis and Vaseline (and/or the vegetable oil(s)) are mixed together as homogeneously as possible and then mixed with the peat paste. The beeswax is heated until it liquefies and then stirred into this mixture.

The additives according to preparation variant (III), namely flower pollen and/or essential oils and/or (medicinal) herbs, are stirred in at the end - they can also be omitted. The finished preparation is a relatively liquid paste that can be poured or spread depending on the temperature.

A carrier material, preferably a textile fabric made of natural and largely untreated materials such as cotton, linen, hemp, silk, wool, etc., is soaked with this paste or coated on one or both sides. This carrier material serves as an insert for compresses and bandages. For cold applications, a cotton, linen, hemp or silk cloth is preferably used, while for warm applications

applications a cloth, fleece or felt made of wool or a wool-peat mixture is preferred.

All propolis preparations according to the invention or the dressings, bandages and compresses made from them or with them are demonstrably suitable for the therapeutic treatment of rheumatism, sciatica, arthrosis, joint wear and tear, lumbago, strains, bruises, sore muscles, menstrual problems, inflammations (especially phlebitis), circulatory disorders, migraines, insomnia, asthma and bronchitis, as well as for promoting general brain activity, especially the ability to concentrate.

Comparative example: Propolis preparation for the treatment of urogenital inflammation

To treat inflammation in the urogenital area or generally in the abdomen, the current technique involves administering sitz baths or full baths, whereby the bath water is mixed with 30 to 50 g of a preparation made from 100 g of propolis and 30-50 ml of peat mash. The propolis preparation in question is therefore sufficient for 3 to 4 such baths.

In contrast, a propolis preparation according to the invention using 100g of propolis and 50 ml of peat paste (e.g. mixture variant I) enables the production of one or more compresses for the relevant body regions, which contain the entire amount of propolis (and peat) and which convey their effect to these body regions in a much more concentrated manner. The compresses can be used many times more often than 5 times, making them far superior to the aforementioned bath additives both ecologically and economically.
