Bei Hosen üblicher Ausführung kommen keine funktionsorientierten Materialkombinationen von wasserdichtem und wasserdurchlässigem Stoff vor. Hosen sind entweder ganz aus wasserdichtem Stoff gefertigt oder eben nicht.In the usual design of trousers, there are no functional material combinations of waterproof and water-permeable fabrics. Das Deck eines Segelbootes kann auch bei trockenem Wetter durch übergekommenes Wasser naß sein. Bei Regatten muß die Crew dann aber oft für Stunden auf dem nassen Deck sitzen (Gewichtstrimm). Auch der Hochsitz eines Jägers kann beispielsweise durch den Morgentau zu naß für eine Stoffhose sein. Normale Stoffhosen schützen nicht vor Feuchtigkeit von unten und führen so zu einer unbequemen und ungesunden Durchfeuchtung von Hosenboden und Unterhose. Bewegt man-sich-mit-so-einer— nassen Hose, dann kommt es zu besonders unangenehmer Verdunstungskälte. Die Alternative bestand bisher darin, eine Regenhose bzw. ein schweres Ölzeug anzuziehen. Diese Hosen sind aber, besonders bei ansonsten trockenem und warmen Wetter, unangenehm zu tragen. Dann kommt es zu unbequemen Wärmestau und Schwitzwasserbildung auf der Stoffinnenseite. Außerdem sind diese Hosen bei angemessen robuster Ausführung steif und unbequem. Hosen aus atmungsaktiven Stoffen sind für eine Sitzfläche nicht abriebfest genug und verlieren so oft recht schnell ihre Wasserundurchlässigkeit. Außerdem bieten auch diese Stoffe nicht den Komfort und die Anmutung von Baumwolle oder anderen Naturfasern.Until now there were no trousers that protected against wet seats and still offered the comfort of fabric trousers (e.g. cotton).
