Die Nasenspülkanne mit Meßlöffel (zur eigenen Herstellung einer isotonen Kochsalzlösung) ist ein Hygieneartikel zur täglichen Anwendung.The nasal rinse jug with measuring spoon (for making your own isotonic saline solution) is a hygiene item for daily use.
In der Volksmedizin vieler Länder ist das Hochziehen von Wasser oder Salzwasser aus der hohlen Hand in die Nase als Reinigungsmethode bekannt. Bei der Verwendung dieser Kannen ist ein Problem, daß die in Deutschland erhältlichen sehr kleinen Porzellankannen zu wenig Volumen fassen, um eine ausreichende Reinigungswirkung zu erzielen. Eine Zugabe von Salz wird dabei nach Gutdünken vorgenommen ohne genaues Abmessen der Salzmenge, die zur Herstellung der geeigneten isotonen (0,9%) Lösung erforderlich ist. Ein in Deutschland erhältliches Gefäß aus Glas ist zu groß und unhandlich für den täglichen Gebrauch und außerdem leicht zerbrechlich. Eine im medizinischen Bereich eingesetzte Nasendusche ist zur Anwendung von Emser Salz für Nasenspülungen vorgesehen. Das Volumen dieser Nasendusche ist relativ klein, die Handhabung eher kompliziert (mit verstellbarem Ventil am Auslauf) und sie kann nicht in gefülltem Zustand auf gerader Unterlage abgestellt werden. Emser Salz ist außerdem alkalisch und daher möglicherweise zwar für die Behandlung bestimmter Krankheiten vorteilhaft, nicht aber unbedingt zur täglichen Hygiene geeignet, für die eine reizarme, pH-neutrale Spüllösung vorzuziehen ist. Darüberhinaus ist Emser Salz erheblich teurer als einfaches Kochsalz. Nasenspülkannen in verschiedenen und praktikablen Größen werden im Ausland hergestellt, z.B. aus Metall (Indien) und Ton (Skandinavien, Australien). Sie sind aber alle nicht optimal, entweder aus Gründen der Hygiene, der Haltbarkeit oder sie sind zu schwer. Alle diese Kannen lösen auch nicht das Problem der ausreichend genauen und einfachen Salzdosierung bei der Herstellung der Spülflüssigkeit. Auch sind die handgetöpferten Tonkannen relativ teuer. Eine Verbreitung dieser Reinigungsmethode in der Bevölkerung, ähnlich dem Zähneputzen, ist aufgrund dieser Forschungsarbeiten ein anzustrebendes Ziel. Wenn ein großer Teil der Bevölkerung diese Methode regelmäßig anwendet, kann wahrscheinlich die Krankheitslast durch akute respiratorische Infektionen und auch deren chronische Folgewirkungen in der Bevölkerung erheblich verringert werden. Damit könnte zudem ein großes volkswirtschaftliches Einsparungspotential bei den finanziellen Verlusten durch die große Anzahl von Arbeitsunfähigkeitstagen ausgeschöpft werden, die diese häufigste akute Erkrankung des Menschen und ihre chronischen Folgeerkrankungen alljährlich verursachen. Problemproblem

In den Figuren 1 und 2 ist die Nasenspülkanne dargestellt. Die Form der Kanne, die Höhe der Volumenmarkierung, der Anstellwinkel der Tülle, die Größe und Form der Nasenolive sind für eine einfache und praktische Anwendung optimiert. Nach Zugabe der richtigen Salzmenge und Auffüllen mit lauwarmem (oder kochendem) Wasser unter Umrühren bis zur Markierung enthält die Nasenspülkanne die geeignete Spülflüssigkeit in ausreichender Menge, ohne daß Flüssigkeit bei leichten Bewegungen oder Abstellen der Kanne aus der Tülle läuft. Die Nasenspülkanne wird mit der Nasenolive dicht abschließend an ein Nasenloch angesetzt. Bei Atmung durch den offenen Mund wird der Kopf zur Seite und nach vorne (übers Waschbecken) gebeugt, so daß die Spüllösung (ca. 200 ml) zu einem Nasenloch hinein- und zum anderen Nasenloch wieder hinausfliessen kann. After adding the correct amount of salt and filling it with lukewarm (or boiling) water while stirring up to the mark, the nasal rinse jug contains the appropriate rinsing liquid in sufficient quantity without liquid running out of the spout when the jug is moved slightly or put down. The nasal rinse jug is placed tightly against one nostril with the nasal olive. When breathing through the open mouth, the head is bent to the side and forward (over the sink) so that the rinsing solution (approx. 200 ml) can flow in through one nostril and out through the other nostril. The nose is then blown and the other nostril is rinsed with the rest of the rinsing liquid.
