1. To ensure sterility of liquids at the time of use, the following procedures are used:

a) the liquid is sterilized immediately before use by various methods (e.g. by sterile filtration).

b) a preservative is added to the liquid.

c) the sterile, unpreserved contents of a container are declared as a single dose, and the remaining contents must then be discarded.

d) A retaining valve is intended to prevent contamination of the sterile, unpreserved contents of a container.

e) The preservative should be retained from the liquid in the container using an ion exchanger.

In addition to the requirement of rapid and reliable killing of germs, a preservative must be compatible with the rest of the formulation and, above all, be morphologically and physiologically well tolerated during use.

It has been established that preservatives are not indifferent excipients and, depending on the concentration, can cause more or less severe irritation.

Allergies to preservatives are also known and continue to increase.

The invention specified in claim 1 is based on the problem of keeping large quantities of liquids sterile and ensuring sterile dispensing over a longer period of time.

This problem is solved with the features listed in claim 1 (sterile filter as an integral part of a dispensing device).

The invention makes it possible to store liquid in a dispensing device in a sterile and preservative-free manner and to dispense it therefrom in a sterile manner.

The small risk of microbial contamination of the contents, e.g. due to problems during filling, is eliminated by sterilization via the sterile filter immediately before the liquid is removed.

Contamination of the contents from the outside is not possible due to the sterile filter unit and the bactericidal coating of the outlet opening.

By using the system described, the user avoids any possible harmful effects caused by preservatives.

In comparison to the Ursapharm dispensing system, the risk of technical vulnerability and the associated risk of microbial contamination of the contents is eliminated.

Handling, e.g. when applying eye drops, is made more difficult by a modified dispensing device.

Due to the additional casing, the filling level of the dispensing device cannot be monitored during use. The dispensing of the contents ends abruptly. However, this is risky when administering medication, as the supply of medication must be guaranteed at all times in long-term medication.

Compared to the Chibret dispensing system, there is no risk that the preservative is not completely retained by the ion exchanger.

If the user has an allergic disposition, even traces of the allergen (here the preservative) would be sufficient to cause an allergic reaction.

In comparison to single-dose containers, there is no risk of possible injury from sharp tear-off edges that may occur when the container is opened at the outlet.

The manufacturing and packaging costs for single-dose containers are enormous and are questionable from an ecological point of view.

Another advantage over other methods that should not be overlooked is that the usual handling of the dispensing device is retained. (Pressure on the side wall of the dispensing device for eye drops, for example.)

An exemplary embodiment of the invention (dispensing device for applying eye drops) is explained using Figures 1 and 2.

By pressing on the container (1) the liquid is released via the sterile filter unit (2).

The liquid in the container head ensures the necessary wetting of the sterile filter over the period of use.

Any liquid that may remain between the filter and the outlet opening is kept germ-free by the bactericidal coating (10).
