Die Lattenhaiter bestimmen die Auflagehöhe der First- bzw. Gratlatten. Dementsprechend sollten die Kopfteile, an denen die First- bzw. Gratlatten festgelegt werden, möglichst in einer Ebene liegen. Über der First- bzw. Gratlatte werden dann Firstgratelemente, wie z.B. Lüftungselemente, montiert. Alternativ dazu kann auch ein anformbares Bahnmaterial verlegt werden, das sich beidseitig über die First- bzw. Gratlatte erstreckt und die angrenzenden Ziegel zumindest teilweise überlappt.
