Film cartridge with guarantee seal

The subject of the present innovation is a film cartridge with a guarantee closure according to the preamble of claim 1.

Commercially available films are supplied in the form of cylindrical cartridges, which have corresponding receptacles on their front sides for engaging holding and transport devices in the form of axes or similar in the camera. These film cartridges are inserted into the camera by hand and, depending on the camera, the film is then automatically or manually guided behind the lens to the opposite side of the camera and connected there to a winding device. After the film has been fully exposed and is almost completely pulled out of the film cartridge, it is also either automatically or manually pulled back into the film cartridge in whole or in part.

The problem here is that users usually do not just have a single film with them, but rather, especially on vacation trips, they carry several films with them. If exposed and unexposed films are stored together, the user can no longer distinguish which of the films has already been exposed in the camera.

An article in the magazine Color Foto 12/94, pages 54 ff, revealed an advert that is attached to the film cartridge itself. This advert provides information

whether the film is unexposed, partially or fully exposed, or already developed.

The disadvantage here is that it is an expensive and complex system, which is also not compatible with previous systems, so that the photographer has to purchase new cameras and lenses (see the article, p. 56).

First of all, it should be noted that in order to avoid double exposures, it is not necessary to

check. Films are usually left in the camera until they are fully exposed. It is therefore sufficient if the film cartridge can be seen to show whether it has already been inserted into a camera. 15

One of the aims of this innovation is to provide a film cartridge that can be manufactured with little effort and is compatible with existing systems and allows detection of whether it has already been inserted into a camera or photo apparatus.

According to the innovation, this problem is solved by the technical teaching of the characterizing part of claim 1.

The key feature of the innovation is that there is a suitable device on the film cartridge that allows you to detect whether the film cartridge has already been inserted into a camera.

0 This is not the case with the above-mentioned state of the art. The display on the film cartridge does not provide any information about whether it has already been inserted into the camera, but only provides information about the condition of the film contained in the cartridge. It can be assumed that a film that has been at least partially exposed has already been inserted into a camera, but the display provided contains too much information on the one hand and is, as already explained, far too complex on the other.

The new device consists of covers that are glued to various places on the film cartridge or attached in another suitable form.

In a first embodiment, it is provided that at least one of the receptacles on the film cartridge, into which the axes of the camera engage, is covered with a cover.

This cover is pierced by the axis when the film is inserted into the camera, so that when you look at the film cartridge again, you can immediately see whether it has already been inserted into a camera.

For safety reasons, it may be necessary to provide not just one but both of the film cartridge's slots with such covers. This provides increased safety if, for example, one of the covers is accidentally damaged before the film cartridge is inserted into the camera.

In a second embodiment, it is intended to apply such a cover to the film itself. The film can either be lightly glued to the film cartridge or the end of the film is covered by a corresponding cover. The cover or the adhesive strip is then also destroyed when the film is moved for the first time.

When using a film that tapers at its front end, in a third embodiment, one or both edge areas of the gap in the film cartridge to the left or right of the film can be closed with a cover. As soon as the film is pulled out of the cartridge, these covers are destroyed by the widening film.

Embodiment

As is generally known, a film 2 is housed in a cartridge 1. The film 2 can be pulled out of the cartridge 1 in the direction of arrow 3, whereby the holders 6, 7 on the film can rotate in the direction of arrow 4 about their longitudinal axis 5.

According to Figures 1, 2, it is now intended to cover the upper receptacle 6, which generally projects axially over the cartridge 1, with a cover 8 in the manner of a hat.

It is of course also possible, in the case of a holder 6 which has an internal cavity for the axis of the camera to engage, to only cover the front side of the holder 6.

When inserted into the camera, the cover 8 is automatically destroyed, so that after removing the film, a quick glance is enough to know whether the cartridge has already been inserted into a camera.

Of course, it is also possible to attach such a cover to the underside of the cartridge. This is usually even easier, since the underside of the cartridge is normally relatively flat and is set back axially behind the outer circumference of the cartridge 1.

According to Figure 3, a cover 9 can then simply be glued over the corresponding holder 7 in analogy to the upper end of the cartridge. This cover 9 is also destroyed when the film canister 1 is inserted into the camera.

Another embodiment is shown in Fig. 4. Here, the film 2, which leaves the cartridge 1 through the gap 2, is directly attached to the cartridge 1 by means of one or more covers 10. It is of course also possible to glue the film 2 itself without using separate covers 10.

Fig. 5 shows an embodiment using a film 2 that tapers at its end. Here, the gap 12 in the cartridge 1 is not completely filled by the film 2, so that free sections of the gap are formed on both sides of the film. These sections are then closed individually or together with a cover 11, which is torn when the film is pulled out due to its widening.

In principle, any adhesive material that can be torn apart with relatively little effort can be used for these covers. This can be, for example, fabrics, paper, textiles or plastics, but also metal foils or any other easily perforated material. The material of the covers is then preferably provided with an adhesive coating at least in places in order to

to enable quick attachment to the film cartridge without the additional use of adhesives or the like.
