Es sind weiterhin Bestrebungen im Gange, den Verbrennungskraftmotor durch einen Elektromotor zu ersetzen, der dann von eingebauten Batterien gespeist wird. Das Problem dieser Elektrofahrzeuge besteht insbesondere darin, daß von der Kapazität her und der Leistung noch keine befriedigende Lösung für die Batterien als Energiequelle gefunden wurde.
