Folding bag Description

The invention relates to a folding bag of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1.

In addition to the usual simple slip-in sleeves, folding pockets are also known for packaging records, in which, for example, a double album or a record with associated information material can be stored. These folding pockets are usually made of cardboard and are very simply constructed, but have the major disadvantage that the disc-shaped object (the record) contained in them is held in the packaging essentially by friction with the inside of the packaging and, in addition, removing the object requires a certain amount of dexterity.

Compact discs (CDs), which have almost completely replaced records as a recording medium for private music playback, are usually delivered in plastic packaging, which also serves as a storage container for the entire service life of the CD. Such plastic packaging, which on the one hand enables storage that is essentially safe from mechanical damage and on the other hand is intended to ensure convenient access by the user, is known in a large number of designs. Usually, a carrier element with a holder that centers the CD is also arranged within a folding case. Although these packages are now available very inexpensively, their mass distribution is not harmless for environmental reasons due to the relatively large amount of plastic processed.

A protective cover of the type mentioned is known, for example, from EP-A 0 503 171. This has a base with relief-like elevations on which the recording medium rests, whereby the elevations are located outside the area occupied by the recording medium, and there is a central elevation for centering the

The CD's center hole is provided. A cover surface is hinged to the base surface, which, when the packaging is closed, together with the base surface and narrow side surfaces, creates a closed interior space for the CD.

Such known CD cases have clear practical deficiencies in terms of handling. On the one hand, placing the recording medium in the packaging is relatively awkward because the center hole has to be brought into exact alignment with the centering projection and the relatively flexible CD has to be pressed onto it, and on the other hand, when removing the CD, it has to be grasped in a way and released from it while simultaneously pressing down the centering projection, which requires a certain degree of dexterity. Handling is therefore not without problems, especially for children and older people.

DE 93 14 008.8 U discloses a folding bag for packaging disc-shaped recording media, which is made from cardboard in a way that is significantly less harmful to the environment. However, the basic structure and handling are still relatively similar to the known plastic CD cases, so that handling problems can also arise with this folding bag. Furthermore, this packaging has a number of folding edges running in different directions, so that production requires comparatively complex handling of the cardboard cut-out.

DE 92 17 900.2 U discloses a CD packaging that is also made of cardboard and into which the CD can be inserted relatively easily. However, this packaging also contains a number of different

In addition to the packaging mentioned, a variety of commercial packaging or containers for computer diskettes (floppy disks) are also known. Here, the commercial packaging is usually disposable packaging, and during use, the diskettes are usually stored in boxes constructed in a variety of ways for stationary use or in bags - for example made of leather, leather-like material or plastic - for mobile use.

The fact alone is a disadvantage that the retail packaging is thrown away and has to be disposed of, while a special, additional cover has to be made for everyday use (and later disposed of, of course). Furthermore, the storage containers are relatively complex to produce and are not cheap.

The invention is therefore based on the object of specifying a folding bag of the generic type which is easy and inexpensive to produce, is fundamentally suitable both as commercial packaging and as a storage container for daily use and enables easy handling of the stored objects, in particular recording media.

This object is achieved by a folding bag having the features of claim 1.

The invention includes the idea of forming the folding pocket of the type in question, without special side parts, from surfaces that are connected to one another via folding edges that run essentially parallel to one another.

connected, and to provide a recess in one of these surface parts, into which the object to be packed or stored is inserted and against whose outline it rests at at least two opposite points, so that it is held securely in the recess. It also includes the idea of designing and arranging the recess in such a way that the object can be inserted into it so far that it touches one of the folding edges with a third point, located laterally between the two points mentioned above, which gives it additional support. The recess is formed in a material layer that (when the folding bag is closed) lies between the base and the cover surface, so that the object is protected by this from below or above.

The object is held particularly securely in an embodiment in which the base area is dimensioned so that the object in the closed folding pocket touches a fourth point on another folding edge opposite the above-mentioned folding edge. While the first-mentioned folding edge is specifically the one between the base area and the additional layer of material located inside the folding pocket, the last-mentioned folding edge is specifically the connecting edge between the base area and the cover area.

Alternatively, the object can also be given additional support by having the base surface near the connecting edge between the base surface and the cover surface, which is arranged in such a way that the object touches this holding element instead of the connecting edge between the base surface and the cover surface.

The additional material layer having the receptacle or material recess for lateral fixation of the object can in particular be formed in one piece with the base surface. The cover surface can also be formed in one piece with the base surface and, in a technologically advantageous manner, the entire packaging will essentially be made from a single cardboard blank.

Between the additional layer containing the receptacle for the object and the base surface or between the cover surface and the base surface or between all three parts, two adjacent fold lines are formed (embossed), which determine a height of the interior that essentially corresponds to the thickness of the object to be stored. The exact choice of the distances between the fold edges naturally depends on the properties of the material used, in particular its strength and flexibility.

The additional material layer forming or having the receptacle (which, according to the above, can certainly be a continuation of the material layer of the base surface) is led back to the base surface, in particular near its connecting edge with the base surface and along a line that is essentially parallel to the base surface, and is firmly connected to it there.

Easy insertion of the object is made possible by the fact that the additional layer mentioned has at least one first folding edge running parallel to the connecting edge in the area between the connecting edge with the base surface and the line along which it is returned to the base surface, whereby the material recess used for inserting the object is essentially

symmetrical to this folding edge on both sides of it and preferably with a convexly curved outline. The points of contact between the object and the outline of the recess are in particular approximately on the folding edge.

Handling the object - such as a CD - is made even easier if a second folding edge, running parallel to the first, is formed between the connecting edge and the folding edge just mentioned. The layer of material with the recess can then be deformed into a rhomboidal to square cross-section - while simultaneously causing the object to be inclined in the opened folding pocket. This makes it very easy to remove or insert the object.

The first of the two fold edges mentioned comprises - analogous to the fold edges between the base and cover surface and the base and additional material layer - two

■ adjacent fold lines, the distance between which essentially corresponds to the thickness of the object. However, since the material layer carrying these fold lines is located inside the folding pocket, a slightly smaller distance between the fold lines is usually chosen than for the external fold edges - for example between the base and cover surface.

If the above-mentioned separate holding element is provided on the base surface, this can also be connected to the base surface via two fold lines, the distance between which essentially corresponds to the thickness of the object, so that it forms a type of tongue which encompasses the area of the inserted object adjacent to the holding element.

The material layer containing the receptacle for the object to be stored is dimensioned in its longitudinal and transverse extension in a simple and advantageous manner so that it essentially covers the entire area between the line along which it is brought back to the base surface and the connecting edge between the base surface and the cover surface, whereby it is essentially glued to the base surface over this entire area. This gives the folding bag a very stable, double-layered base surface.

The optionally provided holding element can be formed in particular from the material of the base surface or the additional material layer in such a way that two fold lines are created in them that run essentially parallel to the other fold lines and a punch line that connects their ends, for example in an angle, semicircle or U-shaped. The flap can be lifted off the material of the base surface or the additional material layer along the punch line and folded upwards along the fold lines in the same direction as the cover surface, so that the object can first be placed in the material recess, then folded down onto the base surface, then the holding flap can be folded onto the object and finally the folding pocket can be closed by pressing down the cover surface.

For simple and secure closure of the folding pocket, a closure tab is expediently provided on the underside of the cover surface and a punch line is provided on the top of the additional material layer, such that the folding pocket is closed by the engagement of the aforementioned closure tab in the punch line.

and a folding edge can also be provided in the cover surface in a position that corresponds to the position of the second folding edge when the folding pocket is closed. The closure flap is then arranged on this folding edge and can be folded relative to the area of the cover surface that lies between this folding edge and the connecting edge between the cover surface and the base surface in such a way that by folding it up slightly when closing the folding pocket, the closure flap can first be positioned above the cut-out and then pressed into it at an angle from above by folding the area folded out of the plane of the cover surface back into this plane.

The holder or material recess for the object to be stored can also have a foldable tab - here located within its outline - through which the object is pressed towards the base surface near the connecting edge, which it touches with at least one point.

In addition to the base surface, the cover surface can also have a double layer of material, at least in sections, particularly in the area between the folding edge and its side edge opposite the connecting edge with the base surface, which serves to further stiffen the drop pocket and increase its service life. The closure flap can then be formed from the second layer of material. This layer of material can also be formed in one piece with the rest of the material of the folding pocket; however, it can also be punched out separately and glued on.

If, however, the folding bag is intended for storage or as commercial packaging for diskettes, then either the dimensions of the base area and the material recess or the distance between the connecting edge of the base area and additional material layer and the holding element and the material recess can be selected in such a way that a diskette can be accommodated with a perfect fit.

In a correspondingly widened version, the folding bag can also be designed in such a way that two or even more similarly designed material recesses are provided next to each other, in each of which an object can be accommodated, so that the folding bag is suitable for packaging or storing several CDs, diskettes or similar.

Advantageous developments of the invention are characterized in the subclaims or are described in more detail below in connection with the description of a preferred embodiment of the invention using the figures. They show:

Fig. 1 shows a schematic representation of a die-cut 1.1, which forms almost the entire development of the folding pocket according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, together with a second die-cut 1.2, which serves as a reinforcing element for its cover surface.

From top to bottom, it can be seen in the figure that the die-cut 1.2 has a substantially rectangular shape, wherein one (the upper one in the figure) of the longer side edges has an extension 11, which also has a substantially rectangular shape and rounded corners.

The die-cut 1.1, which is also rectangular in its basic shape, has a first, simple fold line 13, which runs parallel to the side edge 12, at a distance from its upper, narrower side edge 12, which corresponds to the width of the die-cut 1.2. Parallel to this, at a distance, a further fold edge 14, formed from two closely adjacent fold lines 14a and 14b, is embossed into the cardboard of the die-cut. The area between the upper side edge 12 and the fold line 14a later forms the

Cover surface 15 of the folding bag. The distance between the folding lines 14a and 14b is chosen to be slightly larger than the thickness of the object to be stored, and the area between the two folding lines later forms a (flat) side surface of the folding bag.

At the same distance from the fold line 14b as there is between the upper side edge 12 and the fold line 14a, another fold line 16a is formed. The area between the fold lines 14b and 16a later forms the base area 17 of the folding pocket.

At a distance from the fold line 16a that corresponds approximately to the height of the object to be packaged or stored, but is preferably somewhat smaller than the distance between the fold lines 14a and 14b, a further fold line 16b is embossed. In the following, the fold lines 16a and 16b are also collectively referred to as the fold edge 16. At a distance from the fold line 16b that corresponds approximately to the width of the second die-cut 1.2 mentioned above, a simple fold line 18 is embossed into the cardboard of the die-cut, in the vicinity of which - pointing towards the fold line 16b - a very flat U-shaped die-cut line 19 is formed through the material. The punch line 19 is - like the extension 11 on the punch 1.2 - symmetrical to the center axis 5 of the punch, and its lateral extension corresponds to that of the extension 11. At a distance from the fold line 18, which in turn corresponds approximately to the width of the punch 1.2, another fold edge 20 is formed, here again designed as a double fold edge, comprising two closely spaced fold lines 20a and 20b. The distance between the fold lines 20a and 20b corresponds in magnitude to the thickness of the object to be stored, but is again somewhat smaller than the distance between

the above-mentioned fold lines 16a and 16b. Like all previously mentioned fold lines or edges, the last-mentioned ones also run parallel to the short side edge 12 of the die-cut 1.1.

Symmetrically to the center axis of the die-cut and to the folding edge 20, a recess 21 is punched into the material, which has a substantially convexly rounded outline. In the upper part, a rectangular extension 22 protrudes into the recess 21, which is made foldable by a folding edge 22a that merges into the outline 21a of the recess on both sides.

At a slightly smaller distance from the folding edge 20 than the last-mentioned folding edges, there is another (simple) folding edge 23, which also runs parallel to the short sides of the die-cut. This is limited (in the figure) at the bottom by the short side edge 24.

In the area between the folding edge 23 and the lower side edge 24, an approximately equilateral U-shaped punch line 25 is arranged in the material - again symmetrical to the longitudinal axis A of the die-cut and with approximately the same width as the punch line 19 and the extension 22. The ends of the legs of the "U" are connected to one another by two closely spaced fold lines 26a and 26b. The distance between these fold lines corresponds to the thickness of the object to be stored. The punch line 25 and the fold line 26b determine a flap 27 that can be folded down relative to the plane of the material of the die-cut 1.1.

The entire area of the die-cut from the folding edge 16b to the lower side edge 24 forms a hinged base surface 17 via the side edge 16.

additional material layer 28. Its lower area, between the fold edge 23 and the lower side edge 24, is designated 28a in the figure.

The die cut 1.2 is glued onto the die cut 1.1 in such a way that (according to the arrangement in the figure) the lower edge of part 1.2 lies on the upper side edge 12 of part 1.1 and the extension 11 - pointing towards the fold line 14 - lies in the area of the fold line 13. The section 28 of the die cut 1.2 is bent upwards along the fold lines 16a and 16b so that it lies over the area 17 (which thus becomes the base of the folding pocket), whereby it takes on the character of an additional layer of material. The partial section 28a of the section or the additional material layer 28 is glued over the entire surface to the base section 17, leaving out the tab 25, in such a way that the lower edge 24 of the die-cut piece lies on the fold line 24b. The additional material layer is thus fixed to the base 17, but is still movable in parts in relation to the base via the fold edges 16, 18, 20 and 23 in the manner of a hinge. (This will be discussed elsewhere.)

Figure 2 shows the folding pocket 1 formed from the punched parts described above and shown in Figure 1, in which a computer diskette . 101 is located, in the closed state in a top view.

The surface facing the viewer is therefore the cover surface 15; the upper edge of the top view is formed by the connecting edge 14 between the cover surface 15 and the base surface 17, which is of the same size and completely covered by the cover surface 0 and therefore not visible in Figure 2, and the lower boundary edge by the connecting edge

16 between the base surface and the additional material layer 28 (formed as a continuation of this), which in the figure is also covered by the cover surface 15.

It can be seen that the diskette 101 rests with one side edge 101a on the inside of the connecting or folding edge 16 and with the opposite side edge 101b on the inside of the folding edge 26 of the tab 25 and is fixed in the folding pocket 1 in the direction of its longitudinal axis A by contact with the two folding edges. It can also be seen that the diskette is in contact with the outline 21a of the recess 21 at a point 101b of the one side edge running perpendicular to the side edges 101a and 1Old on one side and at a point 101c of the second side edge running perpendicular to the edges 101a and 1Old on the other side. Through this contact with the outline or boundary edge of the recess, the diskette is fixed in the folding pocket in the direction perpendicular to the axis A and secured against falling out sideways.

The extension 11 of the punched part 1.2 (which is located on the underside of the cover surface 15 and is also covered by it in Figure 2) engages in the linear punched-out 19 on the folding edge 18 of the additional material layer 28 and thereby fixes the cover surface to it so that the folding pocket cannot open up accidentally. (To understand the arrangement of the extension or the flap 11, it should be remembered that the punched part 1.2 is glued to the underside of the cover surface 15 of the punched part 1.1 in such a way that the extension 11 comes to lie in the area of the folding line 13 and points towards the connecting edge 14.

Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of the folding pocket shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, wherein the height ratios are not to scale to increase the clarity of the illustration.

In the cross-sectional view, it is clearly visible how the diskette IQ1 comes to lie inside 100 of the folding pocket 1 and is fixed in the longitudinal direction between the edge areas 16 and 26. It is also clearly visible how the tab or extension 11 on the cover surface 15 reaches through the punch line 19 in the additional material layer 28 and is supported on both sides against its material.

The die cut 1.2 is glued onto the die cut 1.1 in such a way that (according to the arrangement in the figure) the lower edge of the part 1.2 lies on the upper side edge 12 of the part 1.1 and the extension 11 - pointing towards the fold line 14 - in the area of the fold line 13. The section 28 of the die cut 1.1 is bent upwards along the fold lines 16a and 16b so that it lies over the area 17 (which thus becomes the base area of the folding pocket), thereby taking on the character of an additional material layer. The partial section 28a of the section or the additional material layer 28 is glued over its entire surface to the base area section 17, leaving out the tab 25, in such a way that the lower edge 24 of the die cut lies on the fold line 24b.

The additional material layer is thus fixed to the base surface 17, but is still partially movable in relation to it via the folded edges 16, 18, 20 and 23 in a hinge-like manner. (This will be discussed elsewhere.) Furthermore, it can be seen in Fig. 3 that the exception

21, the disk 101 passing through it rests with its upper side to the left of the recess 21 on the underside of the extension 22, which thus acts as a pressure tab, and to the right of the recess on the underside of the retaining tab 25. In the area in between, it rests with its underside on the area of the additional metal layer 28 above the fold line 23....

The diskette is therefore not only held in the folding pocket 1 by the peripheral edges (positive fit) - as can best be seen in Fig. 2 - but also by friction (force fit) between its bottom and top sides and the material (especially cardboard) of the folding pocket. Due to the multiple folding edges and material layers and the flexibility of the pocket material, this storage simultaneously offers a spring and damping effect against external forces, so that the diskette - or another object held in it - is very well protected from damage.

Furthermore, the type of folding and partial gluing of the individual sections of the die cuts shown in Fig. 1, already mentioned above, can also be clearly seen from Figure 3; this will not be described again here.

In Figure 4, the folding pocket 1 is shown in perspective in the opened state to further clarify handling. It can be clearly seen that the additional material layer 28 between the fold line 23, which limits the section 28a glued to the base surface 17, and the double fold edge 16 is deformed approximately into the shape of a cuboid and thereby the material

recess 21 is wide open. In this state, a diskette (not shown in this figure) can easily be inserted from the top right until it rests against the inside of the folding edge 16. The convexly curved shape of the recess 21, the greatest width of which is just slightly larger than the width of the diskette (as can be seen in Fig. 2), together with the pressure tab 22, causes the diskette to initially rest at an angle in the recess. By applying finger pressure from the top left on the area around the folding line 19, the area of the additional material layer 28, which is still spread out in a cuboid shape in the figure, can be folded down onto the base surface 17, whereby the diskette is also folded onto the base surface. The retaining tab 25 must still be at the top.

The cover surface 15 is then pivoted to the left and thus folded down onto the additional material layer 28 with the disk. At the same time, the retaining tab 25 is pressed onto the disk. Finally, if the section of the cover surface 15 doubled with the punched piece 1.2 - which is already shown in the figure in a position inclined to the rest of the cover surface - is folded up in the opposite direction, the closure tab 11 comes to lie over the punch line 19 and can be pushed into the punch line by folding the folded-up section back onto the additional layer 28. This achieves the state shown in Fig. 2 and 3, i.e. the folding pocket 1 is closed.

When opening it, you can - as is easy to see - proceed essentially in reverse order. Even if the lid is open, the diskette - or another object - is first pushed through the

Fig. 5 shows a modified folding pocket 1', specially designed for storing a CD 102, in a top view. Almost all parts are the same as the folding pocket 1 described in detail above and will not be described again here. The only difference is that a separate retaining tab is omitted. In addition to the folding edge 16 (with the point 102a) and the outline 21a of the recess 21 (with the points 102b and 102c), the CD touches the folding edge 14 with the point 102d opposite the point 102a and is thereby fixed in the folding pocket 1 ^! in the longitudinal and transverse directions. Handling is also essentially the same as for the folding pocket 1 - with the exception of handling the retaining tab. The omission of the retaining tab makes handling even easier; however, this also eliminates the need for additional fixing of the object (the CD) when the cover is open.

Fig. 6 shows a further modified version 1", which is intended for two diskettes 101.1 and 101.2 and has two recesses 21.1 and 21.2, each with a pressure tab 22.1 and 22.1, as well as two holding tabs 25.1 and 25.2, and otherwise differs from the version shown in Fig. 1 to 4 only in its greater width. The invention is not limited in its implementation to the preferred embodiment given above. Rather, a number of variants are conceivable, which can also be used for

fundamentally different designs can be used. In particular, the designs shown in Fig. 1 to 4 or Fig. 6 - with appropriately adapted dimensions - can also be used for CDs, and conversely, the design shown in Fig. 5 can also be designed to accommodate a diskette. In addition to cardboard, other flat, semi-rigid or stiffened materials, such as stiffened fabric or plastic (such as polycarbonate) film or the like, can be used for special applications.

Claims (22)

Folding bag (1) for packaging or storing a plate or disc-shaped object (101, 102), in particular a recording medium, consisting essentially of cardboard or a correspondingly processable flat, at least semi-rigid material, with a base surface (17), a (14) connected to and hinged opposite the deck surface (15) and a receptacle for the object provided in the interior space (100) defined by the base and cover surfaces, wherein the receptacle is formed by means of an additional layer (28) of the material, which has a material recess (22) for engagement of the object and is led down to the level of the base surface, characterized, that the additional layer (28) of the material for forming the receptacle on the side edge (16) of the base surface opposite the connecting edge (14) of the base and cover surface is formed so as to be connected to the base surface and can be folded relative to the base surface, and the material recess (21) is designed such that the object (101, 102) received in it touches the connecting edge (16) between the base surface (17) and the additional layer (28) at at least one first point (101a, 102a) and the outline of the material recess (22) at at least one second and one third point (101b, 101c, 102b, 102c), which form a substantially isosceles triangle with the first point.
