Convertible seating and reclining furniture

The invention relates to a convertible piece of seating and reclining furniture, in particular a sofa bed, with a furniture base frame, several upholstered parts designed as head, middle and foot sections that can be moved against each other for sitting and reclining use, and a backrest, whereby the head section is retracted into the backrest by means of a steering fitting in the sitting position of the middle and foot sections arranged one above the other and is pulled out of the backrest in the reclining position and lies in an extended plane with the middle and foot sections.

The object of the invention is to improve such a convertible seating and reclining furniture as described in the applicant's German patent application P 43 32 694.3 in such a way that the head part can be gently inserted into the backrest for the sitting position of the furniture by means of a simple and inexpensively constructed movement mechanism and is held in the pulled-out position with the middle part and the foot part at a favorable lying surface height.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the characterizing features of claim 1.

The subsequent subclaims contain design features which represent advantageous and beneficial further developments in the solution of the task.

The convertible seating and reclining furniture according to the invention is equipped with a simply constructed and inexpensively manufactured steering fitting for the headboard, with which the headboard can be moved into the backrest of the furniture in a safe and gentle manner and then forms a support part in the backrest for the backrest side.

This steering fitting consists of a few simple components, which are formed on the one hand by support levers attached to the head part and which can be adjusted in height on fitting plates of the middle part and by rollers arranged on both sides of the head part and on the other hand by runners arranged on both sides of the backrest on the base frame with an exposed curved track, whereby the head part with its rollers runs against the runners when retracted into the backrest and is forced by these on a curved track past the lower edge of the backrest and behind the contact surface of the backrest into the same and then, in the retracted position, assumes a position corresponding to the inclination of the backrest.

The steering fitting is therefore made up of two simple fitting plates, two support levers, two rollers and a runner made of inexpensive wooden parts that is fixed to the base frame.

Furthermore, the furniture base frame is provided with a second runner arranged in both side areas, which is designed like a trough and on which a roller of the middle section runs, through which the middle section and the head section are first lowered when retracted, the head section is fed onto the runners with its rollers and the head section can then be smoothly retracted into the backrest under the front padding of the backrest.

The rollers arranged on the middle section and interacting with the trough-shaped curves in the base frame are arranged higher in height than the rollers that move the middle section on the base frame, so that this higher position with the trough-shaped runner provides a favorable lowering movement of the middle section with the head section for retracting and pulling out the head section.

Furthermore, the trough-shaped design of the runners in the rear area, i.e. the runner end adjacent to the rear wall of the base frame, shows a deeper trough edge on which the rollers of the middle section rest in the retracted position and thus hold the middle section with the foot section retracted in a slight incline of the seat.

The foot section can be lowered relative to the middle section using lateral lifting and swivel fittings and rollers in guides, can be retracted into the middle section and pushed together with the middle section into the furniture base frame for the sitting position.

The three upholstery parts are pushed in to the sitting position and pulled out to the lying position in a continuous movement.

The fitting according to the invention also ensures that all three upholstery parts assume a level position corresponding to the seat height in the extended lying position and thereby provide a convenient lying surface with a large length.

The drawing shows an embodiment of the invention, which is explained in more detail below. It shows:

The convertible seating and reclining furniture, in particular a sofa bed or double bed, has a furniture base frame (1), several upholstered parts that can be moved against each other for seating and reclining use, namely a head part (2), a middle part (3) and a foot part (4), and a backrest (5) is assigned to these upholstered parts (2 to 4).

The head section (2) is retracted into the backrest (5) by means of a steering fitting in the sitting position of the middle and foot sections (3, 4) arranged one above the other and is pulled out of the backrest (5) in the lying position and lies with the middle and foot sections (3, 4) in an extended plane.

The head part (2) is attached at its end adjacent to the middle part (3) on both sides to a support lever (6), which is mounted on a lateral fitting plate (7) of the middle part (3) so that it can be pivoted in height about a horizontal axis (6a).

At the free end of the head section (2) a roller (8) is mounted on each side and in the base frame (1) a runner (K) is attached on each side in the backrest area, on

where the head part (2) is forced upwards on a curved track (16a, 18, 17a) via its rollers (8) when retracting into the backrest (5) (Fig. 1).

When extending from the backrest (5), the head section (2) moves horizontally away from the runners (K) and forms a flat lying surface at seat height with the middle and foot sections (3, 4) (Fig. 2).

On the base frame (9) of the middle part (3) there is a rotating roller (10) on both sides below the fitting plates (7) and on the side walls (la) of the furniture base frame (1) there is a trough-shaped runner (11) inside the foot area, which corresponds in the longitudinal direction to the cross-section of a trough or tub, on which the rollers (10) of the middle part (3) are guided when pushed into the furniture base frame (1) while lowering the head and middle parts (2, 3) and rest on the raised trough edge - hump - (11a, lib) of the runners (11) in the lying position and in the sitting position.

Each fitting plate (7) has a support (12) formed by a bevel, web or bolt for the associated support lever (6), on which the support levers (6) are supported in the extended, horizontal head part position (Fig. 2).

The rollers (10) of the middle section (3) on the head section side, which run on the runners (11), are arranged at a higher height than two lateral rollers (13) of the middle section (3) adjacent to the foot section (4), whereby when moving into the sitting position, the rollers (10) running from the trough edge (Ha) down to the trough base (lic) and along it increase the lowering movement of the head and middle sections (2, 3) and in the process guide the head section (2) with its rollers (8) onto the curved track of the runners (K) and the head section (2)

can be swung upwards without interference past the front wall (leaning surface) (5a) of the backrest (5).

The headrest (2) also supports the padded armrest (5a) of the backrest (5) and then forms an inner part of the backrest (5).

The rear trough edge (lib) of the runners (11) in the retraction direction, which is associated with the base frame and backrest rear wall (Ib), is designed to be smaller in height than the front trough edge (Ha), forming a seat surface that is inclined backwards and downwards.

In the area of the front trough edge (Ha) of the runners (11) there is a stop in the form of a web (14) and/or an inlet trough (15) for the middle section rollers (10) to limit the extension.

Each runner (K) arranged in the backrest (5) consists of a lower, wedge-shaped nose (16) with a concave, upward and rearward running track (16a), an upper angle piece (17) with a concave, upward and forward running track (17a) and a straight running area (18) running between the nose (16) and the angle piece (17), which is formed by the backrest rear wall (Ib).

The noses (16) and the angle pieces (17) of the backrest-side runners (K) and the tub-shaped runners (11) are each made of wood or wood-based material and are made of panels and strips.

The foot part (4) is mounted by means of a lifting and swiveling fitting (19) on both sides on a mobile base frame (21) with a front panel (21a) that is arranged on two rollers (20) in the middle part (3) facing away from the foot end; this base frame (21) is connected to the middle part end

Rollers (22) provided on both sides can be moved in guide rails (23) of the central section base frame (9) and are limited in the extension direction by stops on the guide rails (23).

The foot part (4) can be lowered downwards relative to its base frame (21) by means of the lifting and swivel fittings (19) on both sides and can be retracted with its base frame (21) into the base frame (9) of the middle part (3) under it to form the seat; in the retracted position, the foot part (4) is held in a way that prevents it from sliding by its rollers (20) in the inlet troughs (24) provided in the area of the stops (14, 15) on the skid side.

When moving from the lying position according to Fig. 2 into the sitting position according to Fig. 1, the foot section (4) is lowered backwards and downwards by its fittings (19), its base frame (21) is moved in the guides (22, 23) under the central section (3) and then moved into the base frame (1) with the central section (3), whereby at the same time the head section (2) is pivoted upwards into the backrest (5) by means of the rollers (8) and runners (K) by pivoting its support lever (6) around the horizontal axes (6a) on the fitting plates (7) upwards and away from the supports (12).

The extension takes place in the reverse sequence and in the lying surface position the head section (2) is then supported by its support levers (6) resting on the supports (12).

The foot part (4) can also be set up in an inclined position relative to its base frame (21) by means of a catch integrated into its lifting and swivel fittings (19) (see dash-dotted illustration in Fig. 2).

The base frame (21) forms a flat bed box behind its front panel (21a).

Claims (9)

Protection claims 1. Convertible seating and reclining furniture, in particular a sofa bed, with a furniture base frame, several upholstered parts designed as head, middle and foot parts that can be moved against each other for seating and reclining use, and a backrest, the head part being retracted into the backrest by means of a steering fitting in the sitting position of the middle and foot parts arranged one above the other and being pulled out of the backrest in the reclining position and lying with the middle and foot parts in an extended plane, characterized in that the head part (2) is attached with its end adjacent to the middle part (3) on both sides to a support lever (6), which is mounted on a side fitting plate (7) of the middle part (39) so that it can be pivoted in height, that a roller (8) is rotatably mounted on both sides of the free end of the head section (2), and that a runner (K) is attached to both sides of the base frame (1) in the backrest area, on which the head section (2) is forced upwards on a curved path via its rollers (8) when retracted into the backrest (5), and that the head part (2) moves away from the runners (K) in a horizontal direction when it is extended out of the backrest (5) and forms a flat lying surface at seat height with the middle and foot parts (3, 4). 2. Seating and reclining furniture according to claim 1, characterized in that a roller (10) is rotatably mounted on both sides of the base frame (9) of the middle part (3) below the fitting plates (7) and a trough-shaped runner (11) is arranged on the inside of the foot area of the side cheeks (la) of the furniture base frame (1), on which the rollers (10) of the middle part (3) rest when pushed into the furniture base frame (1) while lowering the head and middle parts (2, 3) and rest on the raised trough edge (11a, lib) of the runners (11) in the lying position and in the sitting position. 3. Seating and reclining furniture according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that each fitting plate (7) has a support (12) for the associated support lever (6) which can be pivoted in height about a horizontal axis (6a) of the fitting plate (7), on which the support levers (6) are supported in the extended, horizontal headboard position. 4. Seating and reclining furniture according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the rollers (10) of the middle part (3) running on the runners (11) on the head part side are arranged at a higher height than two lateral rollers (13) of the middle part (3) adjacent to the foot part (4). 5. Seating and reclining furniture according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the rear trough edge (lib) of the runners (11) in the retraction direction is designed to be smaller in height than the front trough edge (lla) to form a seat surface inclined backwards and downwards. 6. Seating and reclining furniture according to one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that in the area of the front trough edge (Ha) of the runners (11) a stop in the form of a web (14) and/or an inlet trough (15) for the middle section rollers (10) is arranged to limit extension. 7. Seating and reclining furniture according to one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that each runner (K) arranged in the backrest (5) consists of a lower, wedge-shaped nose (16) with concave track (16a), an upper angle piece (17) with a concave track (17a) and a straight running area running between the nose (16) and the angle piece (17) (18) of the base frame and backrest rear wall (Ib). 8. Seating and reclining furniture according to one of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the noses (16) and the angle pieces (17) of the backrest-side runners (K) and the tub-shaped runners (11) each consist of wood or wood material. 9. Seating and reclining furniture according to one of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that the foot part (4) is mounted by means of a double-sided lifting and pivoting fitting (19) on a mobile base frame (21) by means of two rollers (20) arranged in the foot end facing away from the middle part (3), can be moved with rollers (22) on both sides in guide rails (23) of the middle part base frame (9) and is limited in the extension direction by stops of the guide rails (23), can be lowered downwards by means of the lifting and swiveling fitting (19) on both sides and can be retracted with its base frame (21) into the base frame (9) of the middle part (3) under it to form the seat and is held in the retracted position with its rollers (20) in inlet troughs (24) provided in the area of the stops on the skid side (14, 15) in a way that prevents it from shifting.
