Weiter bewirkt die Reibung der geglättetsten und saubersten Wäsche ein Hineintreiben der auf der Haut sitzenden Bakterien, unter denen sich stets Eitererreger befinden, in die Ausführungsgänge der Talgdrüsen der Haut, wo sie infolge vorteilhafter Lebensbedingungen reichlich gedeihen und zu Furunkelbildung Anlaß geben. Es hat sich daher als höchst wünschenswert erwiesen, mit einer mechanischen Wirkung, die in der Verringerung der örtlichen Reibung besteht, gleichzeitig und als Hauptprinzip eine keimtötende und die Verstopfung der Hauttalgdrüsen verhindernde Wirkung zu verbinden. Die Lösung dieser Aufgabe bot jedoch bedeutende Schwierigkeiten, da als Träger für antiseptische und sekretlösende Mittel, wie z. B. Resorcin, Anästhesin u. dgl., einerseits nur solche Körper in Frage kommen, die deren Wirkung nicht beeinträchtigen, anderseits auch die Aufgabe erfüllen, sich bequem auf den Kragen bzw. das betreffende Kleidungsstück aufbringen zu lassen und gleichzeitig dessen Kanten zu glätten.
