Abstract

Process of parent patent is for removing S, esp. SO2, from a gas by contacting with an absorbant soln. contg. 25-33 wt.% of a halide of a metal from Groups II, III, and VIII and 0.3-0.8% of a hydroxide of the metal. In the addn. the compsn. range of the halide is increased to 7.5-36 wt.% and the lower compsn. of the hydroxide is decreased to 0.03% without affecting the efficiency. The soln. may be clear or limpid rather than a paste. The CO2 absorption capacity of the soln. can be reduced with CaCl2 and the desulphurisation efficiency increased. Solids can be easily separated from the soln. Compared with the limestone-gypsum process a higher rate of SO2 removal is possible for the same pH. NO2 can also be removed.

Description

The main patent relates to a method for removing sulfur dioxide from a gas in which the gas containing sulfur dioxide is mixed with an absorption solution brings into contact, which is a halide of a metal one of groups II, III and VIII of the Periodic Table of the Elements, as well as a hydroxide of such a metal contains, and is characterized in that an absorption solution is used, the 25 to 33% by weight of the metal halide and 0.3 to 0.8% by weight of the metal hydroxide contains.

According to preferred embodiments, the metal halide used is Calcium chloride and, as metal hydroxide, calcium hydroxide.

The present invention relates to a further development of the method of the main patent, which consists in using an absorption solution, the 7.5 to 36% by weight of an alkaline earth halide and 0.03 to 0.15% by weight of the hydroxide contains this alkaline earth metal.

The use of calcium chloride is again particularly preferred here and calcium hydroxide.

This absorption solution can also be used, as described in the main patent, pretreat them with oxygen before treating them with the gas containing sulfur dioxide brings into contact, or the gas containing sulfur dioxide can beforehand with oxygen be mixed. All of the others stated in the main patent also apply here Procedural conditions.

The development according to the present invention offers the following advantages: 1. The addition of the alkaline earth chloride, especially calcium chloride, in the above Area has the advantage that the corresponding alkaline earth sulfate, especially calcium sulfate, that is formed in the scrubber, crystallizes out immediately in the liquid and not on the surface of the washer.

2. The degree of supersaturation of alkaline earth sulfate, especially gypsum in the alkaline earth chloride solution, especially CaCl2 solution, is reduced because of the low solubility of the sulfate, so that the formation of hard deposits is avoided can be.

3. The alkaline earth chloride solution, also here in particular CaGl2 solution, does not cause clogging, since the settling rate of the sulfate, in particular of gypsum particles in the alkaline earth chloride solution, especially CaCl2 solution, is lower is than in water.

Of course, other acidic components of the gas are also used removed because they are bound by the hydroxide present. It is then only essential, the X concentrations of the absorption solution in the range mentioned above to keep.

Of course, the alkaline earth hydroxide content, and also this again applies in particular to the particularly preferred calcium hydroxide Factors such as the L / G ratio, the concentration of SO2 in the flue gas and the like influenced.

The L / G ratio is the known liquid / gas ratio (liquid / gas ratio) and is usually measured in liters per standard cubic meter. Of course it falls the effectiveness at the same L / G ratio with increasing SO2 content in the flue gas from, but surprisingly from an L / G ratio of about 5 l / Nm3, the Effectiveness practically independent of the content of S02 in the flue gas and practically achieved 100%.
