Abstract

The contrast of the X-ray exposure is enhanced, and the amount of radiation exposure reduced, by sandwiching the X-ray emulsion between two phosphor layers, in a special cassette. The cassette has a back plate (5) coated with one phosphor (6) while the other half of the cassette has a padded filling (7) coated with the second phosphor (9). The padded filling ensures an even pressure over the film and intimate contact between the phosphor layers and the film, to prevent loss of contrast and resolution. For improved life the phosphor material is mixed with a hard resin binder. This eliminates any protective coating layer and improves the contrast even further.
