Die Falle, welche sich bei Versuchen mit derselben sehr gut bewährt haben soll, ist
folgendermafsen construirt:The trap which is said to have proven itself very well in experiments with the same is
designed as follows:
Aus starkem und feinem Draht hergestellt, besteht sie aus fünf zusammenhängenden Drahtnetzen,
von denen die beiden Seitendrahtnetze mit je zehn, das obere Drahtnetz, die Decke,
ebenfalls mit zehn Schlupflöchern mit Drahtzähnen versehen sind. Die beiden Schmalseiten
werden durch zwei verschliefsbare Blechthüren gebildet. Die feinen und starken Drahtnetze
sind mit rohem verzinnten Eisenblech eingefafst und mit starkem Eisendraht auf einem Brett
befestigt. In der Mitte des inneren Raumes wird die Länge durch ein festes, aufrechtstehendes
Eisenblech α b durchschnitten, so dafs zwei Theile entstehen. Diese werden wiederum
durch ein horizontal die Mitte der Breite durchschneidendes starkes Drahtnetz cd in zwei
Theile getheilt, so dafs nun vier gleich grofse Räume entstehen, zu welchen die mit s bezeichneten
30 Schlupflöcher führen. Jeder dieser vier Räume fafst bequem 50 bis 60 Mäuse. Unter dem horizontalen Drahtnetz c d
befinden sich zwei Behälter für Lockspeise ef, welche aus zwei langen, an den Enden mit
Blechthüren verschlossenen Drahtröhren bestehen. Durch den Drahtfang g h geschoben, werden
sie mit der an der Thür sich befindenden Oese in den an der Scheidewand angebrachten Haken
eingehakt. Das Futter lockt die Thiere wohl an, ist aber so gut verwahrt, dafs sie nichts
davon verzehren können. Trotz ihrer länglichen Construction ist die Falle sehr haltbar
und leicht transportabel. Sie kann leicht an einer Wand oder Ackerfurche, ins Getreide
ohne einen Halm zu knicken, den fremden Blicken verborgen, aufgestellt werden. Die besondere
Raumeintheilung geschah hauptsächlich aus der Ueberlegung, dafs, wenn durch das weithin duftende Futter angelockt, die Mäuse
in Schaaren aus allen Ecken und Enden der Felder herbeikommen, sie immer noch leere
Räume finden, durch welche sie zu der Lockspeise gelangen können, zugleich aber auch
deshalb,, um das Tödten der Thiere in der Falle zu erleichtern, die sich in grofsen Mengen
leicht zu einem Haufen zusammenklumpen und so die unteren vor dem Tode bewahren.Made of strong and fine wire, it consists of five connected wire nets, of which the two side wire nets are provided with ten each, the upper wire netting, the ceiling, also with ten loopholes with wire teeth. The food certainly attracts the animals, but is so well kept that they cannot consume any of it. Despite its elongated construction, the trap is very durable and easy to transport. It can easily be set up on a wall or furrow, in the grain without kinking a stalk, hidden from view. The special division of space was mainly based on the consideration that if the mice were attracted by the fragrant feed and flocked from all corners of the fields, they would still find empty spaces through which they could get the bait, but at the same time also for this reason, in order to facilitate the killing of the animals in the trap, which in large quantities easily clump together in a heap and thus protect the lower ones from death.
