Another pref. group of water-stabilising additives is saccharides (e.g. sucrose), these being used in an amount of ca 5-15%. The additives impart lasting hydrophilisation to the colloidal aggregates, so that soil treated with teh new soil improving agens have long-lasting water-retaining properties. It is advantageous to use relatively high concentrations of saccharides because these undergo rapid microbial reaction to form new waterstable, hydrophilic structures.
