Abstract

Gas filter has envelope type filter bags with separator space and clean gas space. Clean gas is exhausted via fan(1) dirty gas enters line and dust collects in the hopper. The bags are cleaned by a backflushing action provided by moving nozzle(3). A supply of clean air/gas is given by fan(2) into a duct(4) connected to a rotary valve which has 3 branches. A second branch(5) connects to the backflush nozzle(5) while a third (6) connected to the clean gas space and thus to the suction of fan(1). As the valve rotates these various branches are interconnected. So far as nozzle(3) is concerned, it will be located on a bag which requires cleaning. When branch(5) is connected to branch(4) then a pressure is applied at nozzle(3) but when (5) is connected to (6), reaction is applied. When this happens in rapid succession a pulsing or vibrating effect is achieved on the bag and this causes the filter cake to fall down into the hopper. Any gas filtration application. Gives much more satisfactory operation than with flat valves where delay between pulses is too long to be of much effect, due to leakage between the two sides.
