Abstract

A base member, for a ceramic catalyst carrier or particle filter in the exhaust system of an internal combustion motor, comprises a sheet (2) of corrugated cellulose mats (4, 4') wound into a roll. Corrugation valleys (7) form channels (6, 6') with a minimized cross section. The mat has a thickness of 50-700 Microm. The corrugations have an amplitude of 1-4 mm and a length of 2-8 mm. The base member is stabilized by a carbonized bonding agent, e.g. of resin, glue or wallpaper adhesive. The mats have a flat paper cover (8) and a corrugated paper structure (10).
